Hi Rarshal,
Ringworm has to be seen by a Dr. They have to give you medicine for it. If your child is in school or daycare they will not be allowed to go until they have been on medicine for 24hrs. I hope this helps. Good luck. Dottie
Hi moms.
I want to know if any of you know anything about ringworms? How to treat it at home or should take a trip to the doctor? Can someone help me out?
I just would like to say thanks to everyone for their advise. I had to take the girls to the Dr. because it was worst than I thuoght. The dr. did give them both meds and a cream that I started using as soon as I got home.
Thanks again to all that responded.

HI Rarshal,
Ringworm isn't really worms, it's a fungus. High grade tea tree oil will usually get rid of it as it is antifungal. A tea tree oil shampoo will help as well. Ringworm is stubborn and you may have to go the medical route if it's gotten to far. You don't want it to spread. The oil will keep it in check if not get rid of it completely.
Let me know if you'd like more information.

PS This is not a "home" remedy. Many medical doctors in other cultures use it for many purposes. The US military also used it in their dop kits in WWI before the onset of synthetic pharmaceuticals took over. If you do go to the doctor please make sure that whatever you use is safe to be absorbed into the skin and ultimately the brain. God bless!
You'll need an anti fungal treatment to put on it and it can take up to a month to go away. My daughter had it on her cheek one time. You'll also need a note from your child's DR that she is being treated because if school/day care knows, the child won't be allowed to come back till a DRs care is being provided for it. And a home/natural/herbal remedy isn't going to count either. Ringworm is HIGHLY contagious and easily spread too! So please wash your hands well after every time you touch it and make sure your girls don't touch it either as it can itch from time to time.
Good luck!

In the day of all natural advice, I will say the tea tree oil has worked wonders in my house for several things. But, the way my momma always handled this was to either apply athletes foot cream or her favorite remedy was to apply a coat of clear fingernail polish....I know, it sounds crazy but she swore by it, it seemed to work, and I turned out ok. Haha no strange growth appeard where she put it! Lol
As Mimi said, ringworm is a fungus. If it were my child, I would either use tea tree oil (a high grade...they aren't all the same) or Black Walnut tincture. (I have both here at my house.) I would apply often throughout the day.
This can cause hair loss as well as scalp problems in the future. Their pediatrician will proably want to put them on griseofulvin, a liquid anti-fungal to be taken internally for anywhere from a month to 6 weeks. It can be a pain, as it really should be taken with a high-fat meal, but it does work. I speak from expereince- not only as a mom with a son who had this (and he still has scalp problems from it, flaking, eczema-like symptoms) but I have also worked as a CPhT for almost 10 years.
