Taking the advice of my last question we are now on meds for acid reflux(my 2 week old that is), and Nutramingin. He did wonderful last night with just the meds and this morning we started the (foul smellling) formula. I'm going to keep milk out of my diet and continue to pump and freeze it. Just in case we can go back to breast milk--- that'd be great! Tomorrow we have a consultation with a chiropracter, figured it wouldn't hurt.

So now to my question... Has anyone had experience with a chiropracter and tummy issues with a little one? What should we expect? What should we ask? I've heard nothing but great things so I'm hoping this works for little man. You can tell he's a happy boy when his belly is not bugging him--- once it kicks in you can tell he's in pain. Thanks for all the input in advance! Merry Christmas!

So What Happened?

We went this morning and back again tomorrow afternoon! As for the last comment, a dr perscribed the medicine. I was askign input the night before his appointment. I'm a mom just like everyone else on this website. And a first time mom at that--- Its nice to know I'm not doing everything wrong and that someone else has gone through it!

Our son was out of adjustment in his mid-to-upper back (something about this area coincides with the stomach), our chiropractor noticed it right away, After our sons third adjustment, he slept through the night and more at about 15 hours I woke up and freaked out thought he was a gonner, lol no joke it was the weekend and we were so tired from lack of sleep I ran so fast into his room to see if he was ok. and he was he was just so tired. He was older 4ish months. We never ever looked back, slept through the night then on (except when sick) we continued with twice weekly adjustments for about 4 weeks then went once a week for a while and now he just gets adjusted as needed. AFter about 3 weeks we had him off the medicine, we weaned him off just to be safe.

Now I want you to realize that he will be scared, he will cry during the adjustment especially the first few. My son got the the point where he was excited to see the chiropractor. A good chiro will be prepared for this, and will work gentle and calmly and will step you through each thing they do.

Yes holding our son upside down by the ankles (lower leg) not right on the ankle, was something we did, I also saw first hand him doing it to his own child. Great way to streatch them out!!

All the nerves in the spine wrap around to the front, straight into the stomach and abdomen area. (Which is why sometimes, a good back cracking can solve an upset stomach.)

I've never taken my little one, but my chiro has talked about it. He mentioned holding them upside down by their feet to stretch the spine, and applying pressure from there.

Like the other poster said, I'm guessing baby will be scared. But I've heard such great things. My own chiro has mentioned the great results he's seen himself from treating his own children when they were infants.

Good luck!

My lil one had acid reflux and I think it caused her colic for the first 3 months while I breastfed. I switched to formula and the colic went away and she started sleeping through the night. It was a miracle to say the least! I never knew anything about a chiropracter helping the situation. Our peditrician just assumed she had colic and the reflux so we never pursued other avenues. I know better now! Good luck to you and your precious lil one. It's a terrible ordeal for them and you. Merry X-mas to you too!

Food allergies. My son had awful reflux and colic when he was a baby. I nursed him and avoided all dairy and later found out through a simple allergy test, that he was also allergic to eggs and peanuts. Avoiding those foods helped and as he got older (he's 3 now) I started following the eat right for your blood type diet and he's been doing great ever since.
Good luck.

You probably won't appreciate my comments. I missed your first post, but am really concerned that you appear to have simply taken advice from other moms online rather than taking your infant to the doctor. I can only assume that you are a conscientious mother and have, in fact, consulted with a physician prior to putting your son on medication (even over the counter is risky without MD knowledge/approval). Because mothers from all walks/levels of knowledge, common-sense, and so forth read these posts, I think we have to be very careful about how we present what we are doing. As to taking an infant to a chiropractor, hopefully the chiropractor to whom you are taking this child is reputable!
Merry Christmas to you too!
