My husband and I haven't taken a vacation in 7 years- Grandparents have offered to keep little boy over Spring Break! We can't decide between New York City and Washington DC. Any suggestions? Other places you might recommend?

What can I do next?

Why choose? You could buy two one way tickets to NYC (probably to LaGuardia), take the train to WDC, and purchase two one way tickets from D.C. to DFW. There are also many commuter flights from NYC to DC. If you are truly interested in both - visiting both is very do-able : )

Have a safe and fun trip!

My husband and I love NYC! What about San Fransisco or Miami? It all depends on what you enjoy-romance, shopping, relaxation, partying, outdoor activities, etc.

Boy - this is a tough choice! Both are super destinations! I am leaning towards NYC only because Washington is so great for the kids - save that trip and go with your son! The museums are so, so good!

To keep the cost down in NYC, google free things to do in NYC and you'll get a great list of what is going on - we've been to museums and theatre for little to no cost. Plan on eating well and walking a lot. If you have an iphone, you'll find it invaluable on the streets for getting around. It will likely be chilly during spring break because of the March winds, so plan on layers and comfortable shoes.

Have fun! I'm from VA and NYC and DC are two of my favorite spots!

How about a cruise. The way prices have come down the 2 of you could go on a great cruise from Galveston for the price of the plane tickets and hotel room. And with cruises your food is included in the price.
Either way enjoy your vaca with your husband. Sounds like a much deserved one :)

It depends on what you want. Both New York and D.C. will be high energy on the go places. Both have tons to offer, and both will be expensive. Would you rather see historical things? Do you want to shop? Depends on your vision. My husband and I went to Sedona, Arizona and stayed at the Enchantment Resort. A third option that is all about pampering and spirituality. This would be pricey as well.

To save money find a nice quiet beach anywhere in a decent hotel or resort.

I would pick NYC for a couple trip over DC. I also think the Tahoe idea is a great one!! The option to gamble there is a plus!! Arizona has LOTS of nice resorts, if you are interested in that sort of thing (good golfing, outdoor activities this time of year). The wine country in California is a great trip, and even more fun when you rent a convertable :) Also, we haven't been there yet, but what about Chicago? I've heard it's a great place to visit with lots of restaurants and things to do.

Congrats on the trip, I'm sure y'all will have fun no matter where you go!!

We've enjoyed both of those spots a great deal.

However, if I had a vacation alone with hubby, we would head to South Beach in Miami. I LOVE that place and I go about once a year to get my fix.

You do have to have an open mind there because there are a lot of activities that are not "cool" or "ok" with some people but you can have a great time and not be involved in everything.

I love the beach, shopping and people watching.
