Christmas Lunch?

My sister lives about 1 1/2 hrs away, but she and her family, along with my dad, are coming over to my house on Christmas day around noon. I'll need to have food, but I am at a loss as to what to make for lunch. Usually lunch for us just consists of ham sandwiches and chips or soup, but I don't want to serve that! Does anyone have any suggestions on what you would do?

What can I do next?

On Christmas day, I'll be serving soup! With adult kids/grand kids coming and going and on to the next grandparent (they have 4 sets of grandparents due to divorce), they have to eat so many meals, I kind of feel bad for them. Plus it gives me more time to spend with them instead of in the kitchen. So I'm making a soup buffet with add ons like shredded cheese, croutons, salad, fruit. You could make a nice soup or chili (it's cold right now, so that sounds good!) Or a taco bar - kids love to build their own. Good luck - Merry Christmas!

I think brunch is a good idea... you can have french toast, bacon, sausage etc., and a cold cut platter for those who want sandwiches, even soup... do it buffet style so everyone can take what they want. Make it a L. fancy and substitute sweet potato chips for regular, and get paper plates, cups napkins etc. with Christmas decorations on them to make it more festive (and easier to claen up!).

And remember have fun!

I would also do the brunch idea, there are so many possibilities. And most people you talk to love brunch.

Our christmas lunch, by tradition, is brunch. Eggs, waffles, pancakes, bacon, sausage.

I have a great Holiday Menu Idea that might work out for your lunch. Maybe try serving a Ham and some easy sides like a vegetable and cheese tray. The ham is so easy and has that "wow" factor that makes it feel more festive for the holidays. See below for the full article

Soup and sandwich sounds great! I would cut yourself some slack here and go super simple with a deli platter ordered from the grocery store, some nice sandwich rolls and condiments. Add chips and a nice soup with some sparkling water or "fancy drinks" and you're all set!

If you are feeling guilty about the simplicity, make the sandwiches pannini-style! Super super simple one we make... on ciabatta rolls or sourdough rolls:
- spread store bought pesto on both pieces of bread
- slice of provolone on each side
- layer salami and prosciutto thinly sliced (2 of each)
- put it together and grill!

Very tasty with a tomato soup or another light veggie soup.

I love this pasta for a lunch. easy , serve bread or maybe a brashetta with it ? Get the Pasta noodles that are colored and spiral ? Cook and chill.
Add salami, pepporoni, cucumber, olives, moz cheese ( from string cheese sliced) and cherry tomatos. Toss with a beriestein italian dressing ( sold at frys or safeway ) it is so good and filling, simple, colorful and fun.
make sure you chill it for a few hours mixed and then add more dressing before serving.

Also, top roman salad is good. Top roman noodles to get the crunch, shreaded lettuce, seaseme seeds, almonds, chicken and toss it with an oriental dressing.

*** opps guess I did not read the other answers. brunch is good. I was thinking a simple lunch lol. but maybe you want a bit more :0)

Merry Christmas

What about doing your traditional Christmas Dinner at lunch time? That is what I do every year. Then for dinner, it is leftovers and relaxation!

We do our big Christmas meal at lunch time. It's between 12 & 1 when we eat. Then the rest of the day is playing with toys, relaxing & leftovers.
