Here's another vote for the Chicago Park District. I know a few of the parks even have a "Preschool" class, Chase Park is one of them. They have the cutest little classroom and everything!

kids on the grow (school and paulina) has great classes for that age and are drop off. their classes are a lot of fun and also focus on speech and physical movements. they also have a pre-reading class called book bugs that sounds amazing.

Bubbles Academy has Pre-Preschool classes beginning at age 18 mos. The class for 24 mos. old + is parent- free. My son has been taking classes there since he was 4 mos. old and every year they have a great seminar on pre-schools. They are very reputable throughout Chicago. Here's the website: www.bubblesacademy.com

Or you could enroll him in a Little Kickers soccer class - they have started the summer session but it runs all the way until late in August and they will pro-rate it for you based on how many weeks are left. Go to this link and click on Little Kickers for locations and schedules.

Multilingual Chicago has a 3 hour once a week Spanish class/camp for kids who are potty trained - no parent involvement and reasonably priced.

The Chicago Park District has lots of classes for young children. Everything from "play camp" to gymnastic to arts and crafts. Check out their website and click on the "parks and facilities" and click on the parks nearest to you and then click on "programs available". Very affordable and very good classes. The other good resources is Chicago Parent website and Going Places.

all good suggestions here. John P Wilson Park 1122 W 34th Pl in Chicago has a day camp which just started on Monday for 3-5 year olds. 3 hours per day, 5 days per week. There's openings in the afternoon session, which runs from 1-4 p.m. Love it!

The Ukrainian Village Children's Center
http://uvcc.home.mindspring.com/
offers classes for 3 year olds that are fun, creative, and about a couple of hours in length. They are drop off! Additionally, there's a coffee shop nearby that's quite pleasant to while away the time if you don't need to run errands!

Some of the Chicago Park Districts have Playschool for 3 year olds. At my park it was for one and a half hours, two days a week (Monday and Wednesday from 12:00-1:30). I don't know if any of the parks offer it for the summer though. I just reread that you were looking for something to get ready for fall. Maybe check out Gymboree or My Gym/Little Gym (not sure what it is called). Good luck!

I second the bubbles academy class, it really taught my daughter how to separate, but slowly and in a non-threatening way. It definitely prepared her for preschool. They basically do a mini preschool day in 1 1/2 hours and are pros at separation. They really accommodate your specific child (and you) at how fast or slow they are with separating. Can't say enough.

Try the local YMCA. They have great preschool classes. Arts & crafts projects, gym time and swim lessons. All without mom or dad! A great introduction to independence.
