Okay - my house isn't perfect by any stretch of the means - but it is clean...cluttered in areas but clean! :)

I change our sheets once a week...my boys have bunk beds (Greg has the couch futon and the bunk on top) and Nicky has M1A1 bunk beds....i change the sheets on both of Nicky's beds whether he's slept on them or not - the boys do use the top bunk for play - NERF Wars, etc.

Greg likes to sleep on the TOP of his sheets with a blanket over him...hubby says with my washing them weekly - that their life expectancy is shorter....so ladies - do you change them or not?

THANK YOU!!!

So What Happened?

jennifer - thank you!! i got a wonderful laugh from you today!!! I do see what you mean about thinking hubby meant my kids life expectancy!!!

I have to change the sheets once a week - I guess that's OCD of me...MUST be done...I love the feel and smell of fresh sheets...on weeks when the pollen count is really high - I wash more frequently...

THANK YOU!!!

Hubby does all the laundry and so he does them about every 3-4 weeks. Same for the kids, they are older and don't have accidents nor do they eat or drink in their rooms. That "fresh washed" feel/smell wears off after the first night in them! Just my opinion but with 5 of us in the house if we added everyones sheets to the weekly laundry it would take forever and I don't think there is a need for it.

OK ladies, I'm about to go upstairs and strip my kids' beds. I'm trying to remember if I've even washed them in the month of July....

Weekly sounds a bit too frequent, to me- regardless of wearing them down. there's also the electricity and water used, etc. Honestly, I wash our sheets every 3 weeks, or unless there's an "accident", or I always gives guests fresh sheets and pillows. There are six of us. And I do keep our house clean, too... and I hate clutter and messes, and enjoy cleaning.

Unless your hubby wants to start doing laundry, I'd tell him to butt out ;)

Yeah, washing ANYTHING cuts it's 'life' down, but I'd rather it be clean and have to replace it sooner than for it to sit there collecting dust! EW!

I do our linens once a week with the exception of my older son his are done twice because of his extreme allergies that cause his asthma to flare the rest of his blankets and his curtains get done weekly.

LOL - i feel stupid even admitting this, but i'm so tired/not feeling well, i read that as your dh thinking the KIDS life expectancies were shorter! i was sitting here scratching my head, wondering what one had to do with the other lol....

so, now that i've given all of you your laugh for the day, i'll answer the question :) i'm about as OCD as they come, and unless something out of the ordinary happens, i wash every other week(on thursdays, master bedroom sheets one week, kids sheets the next lol). if one of our dogs is sick/injured and sleeps with us, if one of us is sick, the little one's diaper leaks, etc. - i will wash the next morning, but other than that, every 2 weeks.

Wash em when they are dirty. I think every one or two weeks is a good amount of time to keep clean, but also not waste water and electricity.

I change the sheets weekly. My daughter sweats a lot at night so her blankets and sheets start to smell. She likes the feel of a blanket on her (the fuzziness) so she likes to put that next to her body. My daughter is sleeping the the SAME sheets I used as a child! They are a tiny bit faded but they feel soft. She loves them. So yes, sheets can last a long time (20 year old sheets!) and they just get softer and more loved with time!

I agree that once a week is def. not too often, even with kids getting showers before bed. I don't even feel good in my sheets after more than a week. I'd change sheets twice a week if I could. There's just that funky morning smell in rooms if everything doesn't get refreshed often.

I wash them and the blanket every week. My daughters sometimes make it in the wash more if her diaper leaks or something. Sheets are made to last forever, so if your cleaning them and they only last 5 years, who cares lol. They aren't that expensive unless your buying some fancy smancy sheets :P
It feels a bit gross when I do it.

we wash sheets when they look dirty. so every few months. i figure i'm dirty when i go to bed anyway so i'm not going to sleep on a clean sheet but the one time because by the next night they will be dirty again. i know many just cant stand the thoughs of them being dirty but hey you dont throw your sofa in the wash yet you keep sitting even napping on it.

Well just to add. My son has special needs & even though he has a few sets, I sometimes end up washing his sheets twice a week. Most if theres an "accident" or meds get spilled. I think the quality of the linens as well as the type of detergent used & method of laundering can be a factor. I try to buy good quality and use a mild detergent as well as washing in cold & drying on medium instead of hot water & high heat. Also my daughter has fancy bedding. I wash hers the same but hang it to dry when time allows. I pop it the dryer for a few minutes to knock out any wrinkles.

I think once a week is necessary. We are shedding skin cells all night and sweating. Once these bodily substances are all over our sheets they feed the dust mites that live on our bedding.

While my boys prefer to sleep on top of their sheets also (I think it is because it makes it easier to make their beds), I require them to sleep under their top sheet to protect the blanket from needing to be washed as often. I prefer to just wash the sheets weekly rather than all the blankets, too. But, that's just me. I wouldn't wash sheets that were not used. If they don't sleep in the bed, don't wash the sheets weekly. They might need to be washed montly just to keep them from getting dusty and gross.

Change them. Unless you are buying $900 sheet sets, Sheets are not that expensive. I change my sheets weekly & my kids twice a week ( they spill milk all over the place in their cribs or else I would only do it once a week) The smell of clean fresh sheets is so comforting

Once a week is perfect...he is getting body oils on the top sheet so wash just that one and not the fitted??

The only problem there is one will wear out faster than the other. So yes the life expectancy is shorter, but the top sheet NEEDS cleaning.

Don't husbands worry over weird things at times?? :-)

Sheets feel gross to me after a few days. I want to wash them every week. It often is more like 10 days. If I let my husband be in charge, it would be once per year - he does them, but only if I ask him (sigh)

I change sheets once a week either Saturday night (glimpe of my fun life :) or Sunday afternoons. During the week I spray them with lysol, I am a little obsessive about cleaning.
