My drinking glasses are all getting a white frosting color to them. I have a water softner and we use salt to maintain the system. Does anyone know how to turn the frosted glasses back to clear???

What can I do next?

Try soaking them in warm water and 1/2c of distill vinger. Rinse in warm water and dry with a clean dry cloth. Hope this works for you, it worked pretty well for me.

The same was happening to my glasses and then one day my husband brought home the cascade crystal/power for the dish washer and the glasses were clean! I also use a rinse agent.

Try denture tabs...the bubbles clean out the glasses really well...works for coffee stains too!

This happened to us and we found that we needed to change the parts per million setting on our water softener so it used the appropriate amount of salt (or equivalent). Our area has VERY hard water so we had to put it higher than the default setting and our glasses and baby bottles cleared right up. You may also check your users guide to see if you have the right frequency for the system flush. Sometimes there is an automated setting where it will determine when it should flush but we had to set ours. I had to dig through the manual for the first few months to get the right combination.

Lemi-shine was recommended to us as well but we found that it took some of the paint off of dishwasher safe dishes. You might run some through an empty cycle or one that doesn't have a bunch of dishes with art of them, mugs with designs and stuff like that.

Cheers!

Yes, clean glasses with vinegar! Also run a quart of
vinegar thru your dishwasher!
Reduce the amount of salt in your softner, if you can't do
it call the company that services it and explain your problem!
Good Luck

Hi K.~
My MIL suggested a product in the cleaning section called Lemi-Shine. It's in a gatorade size bottle w/ a green lid. You put JUST A LITTLE bit (size of 2 quarters) in w/ each dishwashing cycle & viola - clean glasses! We stopped using our water softner as we found out that salt can do something bad to the pipes (can't remember the fine details), but nonetheless we don't use a water softner anymore! This product works great & can be found by the dishwashing items at Walmart & HEB. The nice thing is that one bottle lasts for months as a little goes a long way. Good luck!

I just soak ours in plain white vinegar. I also do this for any other item at starts getting deposits on them. It works like a charm!

Hi K.,

I lived in SA my whole life up until this past July when we moved to Katy! The same thing always happened to my glassses, too. We didn't have a water softenter, but what I did was add vinegar to the rinse water when the dishwasher was running. It is kind of a pain b/c you have to be around to know when the rinse cycle is starting, then just open the dishwasher and pour a little (like maybe 1/2 cup?) vinegar into the bottom of the machine. My glasses came out sparkling! My machine also had a 'rinse only' option, so if I missed the rinse cycle I would just rinse them again with the vinegar...except then they'd be very wet when I unloaded, but oh well, it was worth it to have clean glassware! Good luck.

I am not sure about the water softener settings, but I do know with the hard water we have adding cleaning with vinegar will remove it. Also add about 1 cup of vinegar to the rinse cycle on the dishwasher and it will make a huge difference in keeping them clear.

Good luck!

Hi K.,
Try adding just a little bleach to some soapy water and soaking the glasses...it should work. My grandmother and Mom both always added just a little when doing dishes. I think there is also a product that you can add to your dishwasher cycle that will help, but I cannot remember the name of it - saw it advertised.

Ours gets slow build up even with all of the treaters, so we run a load with CRL once a month or so. I cleans the dishwasher too, just don't put plastic in the CRL load.

K.,

We use LemiShine in our dishwasher. We don't have a water softener and when we moved in all my dishes turned white. Now I put half lemishine half Cascade complete and I haven't had a problem since!

Hi K.,
Use white vinegar and your glasses will sparkle like new! - You may have to use a brush to get off the calc deposits if they don't float off immediately, but the vinegar will do the trick.

I think that frosting is from "etching" and I believe it happens in the dishwasher. I don't know how to fix it, but I do know that handwashing doesn't make it happen.

I don't recommend you use all those toxins to clean your glasses your family drink from those. If you don't do the vinegar thing I would say go with something green and if not that go to good old hand washing. looking at everyone elses comments I guess you use the dish washer. I do sell products and we have great dish wash and dish washer soap check it out. even if you don't buy my wonderful product go to www.shaklee.net/healthydesire/getclean and click on IN YOUR HOME link and just read

Good Luck

I had the same problem and found a product called Lemi-shine. It works wonders. Every time I run the dishwasher, I use detergent in the big area and Lemi-shine in the 'pretreat' area. You can buy this at Wal-Mart and it's around 3.50. It lasts a month or so. Good luck!

Try soaking one or two in vinegar the plain white kind. It works good for cleaning vases when they get that deposit in them it should work. If it does a gallon is not much money to spend as it can be used for the same purpose several times.

Hi K.
there is a chemical in the diswashing detergent that is causing that to occur. I use a product that has totally cleared my glassed from any frosty residue- I can give you the details if you PM me- We live in the country and are on well water that really caused my dishes to retain frosty residues- all gone now.... I do not sell products but I can send you to the link where you can get the information
good luck

My glasses do the same along with my dishes. I will either spray as I go with Lime Away or I will just load some in the sink and put Lime Away in water and just rinse them. They become crystal clear and look like new.

Good Luck
