I have one of those steam buggies and I have always used that without any chemicals. Of course, it takes forever and I have to get on my hands and knees to do it, but my grout was always white without the smell of cleaning products. You may want to hire a carpet cleaner to come clean your grout to give you a fresh start. A lot of carpet cleaning companies are offering this service. Once you do that, you may want to invest in a grout sealer. Most people don't know about it, but it helps keep stains away.
Hi Allison,
I know you have had many suggestions and many probably work fine, but as a designer faced with clients asking me about this day in and day out (and my own former home needing grout cleaning), I found that "Finazzle" for grout works like nothing else I've experienced. YOu can find it at your favorite home improvement store and it comes in spray form. Doesn't smell too badly and there isn't a lot of scrubbing involved (something every woman appreciates!).
Just read the label for the way it effects colored grout, if that's applicable to you as it will bleach out dark colored grout w/o breaking it down. I don't know if they have any other products for colored grout but it might be good to ask.
Also, after you are finished cleaning the grout, seal it with a grout seal and this will help protect it for much longer.
Best of everything to you!

Greased Lighting (which you can buy at Home Depot)and a good scrubbing brush. Spray on grout, let it sit for a minute and scrub with brush. Wipe clean with wet towel. works amazingly!!! My kitchen looks like new!

Allison,
You can use grout cleaners and they all work great. However, if you would like to go a chemical free route, there is one. My husband and I were given a steam cleaner. I think our brand is Phantom. I HATED it at first, but one day I was messing around with it and started cleaning the grout on my kitchen floor. It did FANTASTIC, so much so that I had to finish the rest of the floor. The grout wasn't that clean when we bought the house. You can use the cleaner all over the house. Sinks, around sinks, there is even a squeegie (sp?) attachment that you can use to clean smooth surfaces like laminate flooring and tile. I can go on and on. If you want to know more message me. Oh, when you get your grout nice and clean, a good way to keep it that way is to get a good grout sealer. Hope this helps!
God Bless!

Hey Allison,
I use a product by a company named Melaleuca. Their products are just amazing because first of all, they are chemical free so they are safe for you and your family and the products work amazingly!!! Secondly, they are less exspensive than even Wal-Mart. I love them. Visit my web site and I would love to share them with you.
If you have tried Tylex, bleach, etc., you can go to any home store to the grout section.
They make a grout paint/stain. It is very easy and fast to use, tedious when you have much tile as I do.
You use a small brush or a toothbrush. You can seal it after this. I have done this several times over the years even to painting it darker because the first color was too light. Good luck.
get a tide or clorox bleach pen (in the laundry aisle) - go over the grout carefully and it will bleach!
Hi Allison-
If you're grout is really dirty (like mine was) the Mr. Clean Magic Erasers work well. It's hard work, but your grout will look like new again. Once you have them back to looking good, I just use my steam mop to clean my floors regularly and then just get out the Magic Erasers at the first sign of darkening in the high traffic areas to prevent the grout from getting as bad as I did previously.
Good Luck,
K.
Easy-Off BAM! It works like a charm.
Hi Allison,
Check with Home Depot - flooring dept. I bought my tile there and they have me Armstrong tile cleaner. I believe they also have something for grout.

hydrogen peroxide diluted with water -works beautifully and isn't a horrid smelling toxic product :)
Have you tried using a paste made from white vinegar & cream of tartar? That stuff will clean just about anything. I think I saw a PBS show where this "helpful hints" guy said it was good for that. I know it'll clean the silver burner trays on the stove & clean off "burned on" messes from your baking dishes like a charm but seems like he did say it was good for grout too. You can always try it. Just mix I believe 1 part vinegar & 3 parts cream of tarter. You want to make a paste but NOT a thick past, you still want some slight wetness to it. You can either pour it on if it's a floor grout or use an old toothbrush to rub it on. Leave for a few minutes then rinse off. Good luck!
I like to use Clorox.
Saw this on HGTV yesterday. Put baking soda in vineagar and use a small brush (a clean, old toothbrush will work) and that should do it.
I have recently waged a war against my grout and won! My big problem is in my shower, so it depends on where yours is, but here is how my battle went: I used Tilex (Mold & mildew) for several months. It was better, but the grout was still black. I used Mr. Clean and it lightened some spots, but still not all white. THEN I used the easy off oven cleaner and left it for an hour. I rinsed it, used the magic eraser and GONE for the first time in 3 years of trying products!!! Now I do maintenance cleaning with a quick spray down of tilex once a week. It has stayed white for 2 month with no more scrubbing at all! Good luck!
Tilex, Mold and Mildew is awesome. It is full of awful chemicals so open a window and try not to breath in.. I also love their soap scum remover.. It may take a couple of uses if your tile is in really bad shape.
I live in a house built in the 1930's with all white original tile.. I thought I would need to replace the tile and tub till I used these products they are amazing..
