HI everyone-- I need help! My husband has
been working for 8 days putting in new laminate floor in most of our
house and after all this work I am desperate to find the best way to
keep it clean. So far I am going to buy a few microfiber dust mops to
do the quick sweep up---but I am looking to find what type of vacuum,
electrical appliance to get to suck up the piles or even pick up some
of the junk that accumulates. I have spent many hours on the computer
researching all the different types of dry/wet vaccums and cant figure
out what makes sense to get!!

So...any one have laminate floors and can tell me what works best?
Or any one have a Floor mate, a bissel flip it or flip ease, or some
kind of dust buster that works great?
Or what is your favorite type of microfiber dust mop or broom?? Any
and all help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks
L.

I use Windex glass cleaner w/ammonia and dilute it a bit with plain water. I use it with a flat mop - it works great and evaporates quickly with no streaks!

I have been on the search for the perfect floor cleaning tool for a while too. I have the Bissell Flip Ease. Not too impressed with that. I don't know which of the others works best but I would recommend getting something that has brushes. The flip ease has a place that has suction but it does not get anything out of the grooves in the laminate or out of the grout in the tile. Both sides, the suction and the wet mop have the same problem. So when I am ready to shell out some more $$ I will go for something with some sort of brush so the debris (and water when mopping) will be pushed into the suction. Good luck. Let us know what you end up with.

I have 3 different things I use on my Wood/Laminate flooring.

Hoover Floor Mate – This thing is awesome and I use it all the time to get a REALLY clean floor. I vacuums, mopes, scrubs and squeegees the floor. The only drawbacks is that it does take time to do a room, I need to empty and refill the tanks between rooms and if your floors are dark cherry or mahogany (mine are NOT but I hear) it can leave streaks.

iRobot Roomba – This is my new toy and I LOVE IT!!! I program this to run everyday while I am at work!!! I have a black lab and this little gem picks up all of the hair and crumbs from my 2 little rug rats. It has a special brush that gets in the corners and it auto adjusts to get up on rugs, move to tile and carpet. This is a great vacuum, I am saving for the moping model (Scooba) for my kitchen. I love that my floors are clean when I come home :-)

Swifter Wet – I use this any time there is a spill, the dog tracks anything in and general upkeep, works great on my Wood/Laminate flooring and is quick and dries fast.

Good Luck!

The best thing I have found to clean my laminate floors is a maid - I highly recommend it ;-)

Hi L.,

A Rainbow vac, though expensive, is one of the best at picking up dirt to dust on a wood or tile floor. It rolls easily too. The dust gets sucked into a bowl of water, not in the air.

As far as cleaning, a microfiber cloth, damp, attached to a swiffer applicator, going with the grain of the wood. Use Bruce wood floor cleaner, or Pledge wood floor cleaner, or Murphys wood floor cleaner. Most are just aquirt and mop. Or Method almond wood floor cleaner. Or just vinegar and water.

For big floors, you want something wide like a swiffer max, or rubbermaid applicator(which also works on tile).

And, or course, using these works your abs at the same time.

Just used quality neutral pH stone cleaner just like what I did to my floors during Saltillo cleaning. I got this idea on here http://www.heavensentfloorcare.com/satillo.html. Hope that you'll find it too for the best of your floors.

I have nailed down hardwoods, tile, travertine and carpet.

I use a Bissell ($20) from home Depot that I use as much as a broom about twice a day. I am on a heavily wooded lot so I use it a lot due to leaves, etc brought in by 3 dogs. I use this on the wood, tile and travertine.

With carpet, I use my Hoover vaccuum at least once a day downstairs. I use a Bissell steam cleaner (one with hot water heater on it) for cleaning fairly often.

I am super careful with the hardwoods and use only the Bissell sweeper, broom and then a dust mop with Bruce Hardwood floor cleaner. The Bruce seems to work well with getting last bit of dirt and grime off the floor.

As for cleaning the tile and travertine, I use vinegar.

Hope that helps.
Happy New Year!
Susan

I got a Rubbermaid microfiber thing at Home Depot that has one pad for dry dusting and one pad for "mopping". I also use the Swivel Sweeper (I got it at Wal-Mart in the "As seen on TV" section). I love the swivel sweeper because it's battery operated and picks things up really well. It's so light-weight and easy to use and my two small children fight over taking turns with it! So a lot of times I have them doing the laminate floors for me while I'm vacuuming my carpets! I am almost daily running the swivel sweeper under our dining area where we have laminates. But when I'm cleaning the whole floor, I like to use the microfiber dry dust mop and then to pick up the piles of dirt and dust I use my swivel sweeper. Then I use the damp mopper with just plain ol' water to mop up. I hate getting out the broom and dust pan now because I find this method so much easier. If my hubby is cleaning the floors though, he still likes to use the old fashioned broom and dust pan.
