Can anyone recommend cleaning products that are safe for the enviroment and are healthier but also do a great job? I was purchasing a spot remover and a detergent from a company but you had to buy so much product a month. I would just like to find a company that I can just buy what I need.

What can I do next?

Hi T.
I'm using the Trader Joe's liquid laundry soap, dish soap . I really like the melaluka dish soap, works without bleach. I'm also trying there tough and tender, and the tile spray. I like that the products come condensed, so you can use a different strength for different jobs. I just didn't want to spend enough for a membership. I also use water and vinegar, and tree tree oil with great friut seed extract in different solutions I make.
You could also use salt or baking soda, and a lemon half to scrub with. But that takes a bit of elbow grease.
Happy cleaning, A. H

Hi T.

It depends on what you are trying to accomplish...

I've found over the years that I like different brands for different things through a lot of trial/error. Some of my own personal picks are the Ecos laundry detergent in Magnolia&Lily, the Ecover liquid fabric softener, NaturallyClean brand spray for Kitchen for countertops(though it has a somewhat icky slight afterscent), and Clorox Greenworks all purpose spray for bathrooms (although I am not a fan of Clorox and hate to support such a huge company that has so many products that are toxic). These are the items I've used exclusively after trying others and not caring for the scent or some other aspect.
You can get all (except the clorox brand) at Whole Foods and can also find a TON of other items to try. They have a lot of other brands and what may appeal to one person may completely turn another person off. And Whole Foods has an amazing return policy if you do not like the product for any reason. I found the Greenworks at Costco one day and love the lemony scent...and Costco has a great return policy too!
I have personally never been able to find just one brand that serves all purposes, maybe you will have better luck. But trying some items out for their effectiveness, strength, appealing/unappealing scent, etc. is what I think is the best way to go...especially if you can return the items if you don't like them.

Good luck and great job on avoiding chemicals the best you can. I personally try not to use anything that won't even list the ingredients (like all standard laundry detergents!) and feel sooo much better knowing that my family isn't "wearing" a bunch of chemicals/cancer-causing fragrances all day long. You can't completely avoid all the garbage, but you try to do the best you can :)

T.,
Have you tried at Better Health or Whole Foods? They both offer a generous selection of safe cleaning products.

I understand the companies who require so much per month. Amway wasn't that strict about it, thankfully, because their products seemed to last forever. But the company I currently buy healthier products from...it is their policy that you do, although there have been times when I took a break. And I'm not always in the $100 or more range either.
But try Better Health/Whole Foods. Even at Meijers you can find ECOS brand laundry soap, which is natural. Remember that the amount of suds is not proof it's working.
