Does anyone have any secrets to getting the nooks and crannies of those sippy cup lids clean? I have been using Q-tips, but I don't think they are working all that well. I recently threw away a bunch of sippy cups because I thought I was getting them clean, but when I looked at them really close in the light I saw (i know this is discusting) mold in the hard to get to spots. I also have the kind with the straws and haven't been able to find anything to get those straws clean. I would appreciate any advice!!

What can I do next?

I haven't tried this myself yet, but pipe cleaners might do it. They're skinny & fuzzy so you can slip them through the nooks & crannies & work them around until they're clean. Just a random thought that crossed my mind when I saw you mentioned the straw kind. But honestly My best friend has three little ones & she just tosses everything in the dishwasher & she's had no problems as of yet.

To clean the straws, pipe cleaners work pretty well. Also, if you vind a flute cleaner, that would work well, too. A flute cleaner has a weight on a string connected to a small cleaning cloth. It works wonders.

Great ideas from everyone but I actually found the easiest way to solve this problem!! Put a little bit of hot water in the cup and then just a drop of liquid dishwasher detergent ( not the regular dish soap but the detergent yopu use in the actual dishwasher). Then put the lid back on the cup and shake it. Voila! It is clean! My sister showed me this and it works literally every time!

I have a home daycare and have always used the little scrubbers that come with the Dr. Brown bottles. I find the replacement brushes at either Toys R Us or Babies R Us. They are only a few bucks, but will save you a lot of headache, having to throw out gross cups or fearing you didn't catch something that could make your little one sick!

Best of luck!

I had the same problem with my boyfriend's grandson's sippy and straw cups, so I soak them in bleach, then use a nipple brush to get in the grooves, just make sure you rinse them well...works wonders!

try soaking them in a pot of boiled water, with a cup of vinegar. let them soak until the water becomes cool. soak the the straw caps in there also. be sure you have taken the water off the burner and dont boil with the items in there.

My daughter is always leaving a jusice cup in the car for me to find a few days later that has mold growing in it. Yuck! I find he very small nipple brush from Dr. Browns works beautifully. I will soak them in a soapy solution for 20 or so minutes, then get the teeny-tiny brush after them, and then finally run them through the diswasher. The brush even works on the clear plastic inserts. Good Luck!
