Clogged Duct Possible After Done Nursing?

I stopped nursing by 8 month old son about 2 1/2 weeks ago. The transition was seamless. He bit me so hard that he drew blood, so I said, "that's it!" I had only been nursing him right before bed anyway. I pumped for about 4 days, then stopped. No pain, no issues.

Now, 2 1/2 weeks later, my breast has been sore for 2 days when my kids lean up against me. Almost like the start of a clogged duct feeling. So, tonight I massaged the breast to see if I could tell why, and milk starts spurting out. Ugh. I thought I was done with that!

Question is, could I have a clogged duct after all this time, and what can I do about it. Cold compress? Heat? Bind up tight? Grin and bear it? Has anyone had this happen?

What can I do next?

I had that happen with my now 4yr old, and I think it was about 2wks after I *thought* I was done producing milk. For me, hot washcloths felt best. I just soaked the washcloth in hot water, rung it out a little and laid it on my breast. Or, I would go in the shower & put the water as hot as I could tolerate & let it stream on my breasts--that helped a lot too. Sometimes it seems that stopping nursing can be as painful as starting out!
Good luck & hope this helps!!

Do they still have the la lache league? I didn't look it up but they used to answer questions like this. I also believe doctors have something they can give you to halt this. It would definitely hurt to wait it out.

Yes - you can get a clogged duct at anytime. I have also had mamography and ultrasound to confirm it has uniform density. Mine isn't as uncomfortable as yours so I am just waiting for it to go away. Do check with your doctor or nursing support group.

Yes - mine actually doesn't even connect to my skin, so I have a soft lump that's been there for years and will probably be there until menopause. I was so freaked out that I had a mammogram and u/s and it confirmed that it's just a totally closed up duct.
