Has anyone out there cloth diapered their twins? Did you use a service, if so what one? Love any feedback you have.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I am planning to CD my twins. Mostly prefolds/flats and covers. They won't be here for a few more weeks but I couldn't be happier we have gone this route. CD's are so stinking cute and we have gotten so much help to build our stash.

Hi C.,

I don't have twins, but I cloth diaper my son and partially cloth-diapered my older daughter (who is now potty-trained), but if you think you can handle it, I'd say go for it! More power to you! The lower cost financially (from not having to buy a zillion disposables) and environmentally (from not having to put that many disposables in a landfill) would be a real motivator for me. So if I were having twins, I would definitely try to do it. But then again I already have a decent diaper stash built up already and have invested into cloth with 2 children.

Honestly, I would just definitely do a good internet search on your options and try to figure out what might work best for you according to how you envision your life with the babies once they get here. Will you be the primary launderer of the diapers or will you have help from others? Do you plan on staying home with the twins or will you eventually go back to work? (Btw many day cares won't do cloth) If you're worried about keeping up laundry-wise and you could afford a service that might work best to handle some of the load. But then again others have done it on their own. I don't know anybody personally who has cloth diapered twins (only singletons), but I have heard of many people out in the cloth-diapering community online that have. So it can be done with good results! I'm sure you could learn a lot more through searching online.

Whatever you choose, I wish you the best of luck!
M.

P.S. One final note....if you do decide to take the plunge and cloth diaper twins, don't let anybody discourage you or tell you that you're crazy for doing so! You need to decide this for yourself. And if you do invest in cloth and find out it isn't for you or you can't keep up, then you can always resell them. Cloth diapers have pretty good resell value!

Of course it's doable.
The plastic land-fill-filling ecologically disastrous products
haven't been around forever.
Generations of mothers diapered their twins and triplets with cloth diapers. I will suggest diaper liners so that contents of diapers can be slipped into the toilet when necessary.
Keep a bucket (or other container) of sudsy water near the changing table.
Used diapers go straight in there.
1-2 laundry loads/day should be sufficient.
Perhaps a service for the first month or so,
until you catch your breath.
Call your local La Leche League for advice on diaper services.
Good luck!!

Not going to be easy, but certainly doable (I guess). Congratulations!

we cloth diaper twins! :) ours are 10 months old!
we don't use a service (figured out we wouldn't actually save much money that way) and washing at home is no big deal! I do a load every other night and it works out fine for me. the cost of our utilities has barely changed.

We use the prefold diapers with Snappies and covers to hold them together (the most basic, inexpensive kind of cloth diaper you can use). There are plenty of other options out there though, so you have to figure out what would work for you!

People told us all the time, once you get started you'll quit for sure, let's see how long you last, etc.... we've been 99% cloth diapering since they came home from the hospital, even when we're out for the day or away on vacation (the 1% is on Sunday mornings because the church nursery doesn't do cloth, which is fine with me, we're not completely anti-disposables, they're just not for us!). We're very lucky because our sitter (who watches them 2 days/week) was ok with cloth diapers! I do have one other cloth diapering friend with a singelton and she uses cloth when at home, but disposables when out and about or at a sitter (so maybe 50% of the time) - you just have to chose what works for you!
Even now people think we're crazy, but i would never have done it any other way! We've saved so much money and it is better for the environment no matter what anyone tells you - there are arguements both ways because of the water it takes to wash cloth, and energy it takes to make them, etc... but even though cloth aren't completely environmentally perfect (what in the world is anyway?), in the end cloth still comes out much better - the water, energy and all the environmentally harmful things it takes to make disposables in mass, the pollution of shipping them, the landfill filling, and the chemicals in them touching my babies' skin were all reason enough for us to choose cloth!

Any specific questions feel free to message me!
