Cloth Diapers for the Older Child

I've read lots of notes here saying that there's basically no fixed time that a child will be potty trained at night. For instance, from another poster:

"Bed-wetting up to the age of 6 is not unusual, even though it may be frustrating to parents. Treating a child for bed-wetting before the age of 6 is not usually necessary." From: http://familydoctor.org/online/famdocen/home/children/par...

Got it. So, I need to have bigger wraps and cloth diapers for my almost-5-year old at night. We've loved Pro-wraps so far, but I don't think they get bigger. He's 45 pounds. If he's going to be using diapers til he's night trained...I need more resources.

I know to restrict liquids close to bedtime, but if we have dinner at 6 and he goest o bed at 7:30, isn't that kind of difficult? He only drinks 6-8 ounces of milk or juice then.

Thanks for your help, friends!

So What Happened?

Thanks for the advice, Ladies! At this point, I think we'll just keep doing what we're doing. Diaper to bed, wake up for a potty break, diaper and insert for the rest of the night. The prowraps we have are looking haggard but they're working. Who knows? Maybe he'll dry out soon. :) Thanks again!

I don't know a lot about cloth diapers, since I never used them, but I did want to point out that if his night time bed wetting goes on as he gets older, you may need more than a cloth diaper. My son wet the bed until he was 10. So did his father and his uncle. We used to use regular Pull-Ups, but by the time he was 7, we had to switch to Good Nights. As he got bigger, so did the amount of pee that his "diaper" had to hold at night! Good Nights go up to over 70 pounds.

I would suggest going with a large pocket trainer/diaper. Fuzzi Bunz and Happy Heinies (sp?) both come in larger sizes. You can check out diaperswappers.com if you want to buy used ones, or even just to see what is available.

at 5 years old your child should be potty trained at night. I would suggest you limiting liquids after supper and start working on the night time training. I would also suggest talking to your Dr. If your child hasn't been trained by this time there maybe a medical condition.

Check out Kushies AIO. I know they go up to 45lbs, but there might be another size after that.

Do you want diapers or do you want trainers? If you want some hybrid of the two, I would suggest the Happy Heiny's trainers. You can stuff them with as much as you need to assure the best absorbency level. You can also get them with snaps on both sides, one side or no snaps (closer to underwear) and they come in fun (underwear like) colors. Here is a link

On the other hand, if you are looking for a cloth trainer that is much more on the underwear side and not so much on the diaper side, I would go with the Imse Vimse trainers. Very similar to underwear but with a layer of PUL to guard against leaks.

Here is a link for that.

Good luck

I choose to wash sheets and blanket every day, but I have a plastic covering over the matress so it does not soak in.

Have you thought of cloth undies instead. There are some that have a plastic or water tight outside.
