I have some Fuzzi Bunz and Thirsties CDs and they reak of urine and bm. What can I do to get the stench out?

My cleaning proces:
Empty solid waste into toilet & scrape
Put into diaper pail
Wash in cold water
Wash in hot water with a small amount of Tide Free
Rinse twice
Tumble dry on low

What can I use on them that won't cause build-up and reduce the absorbency?

What can I do next?

No matter what you use, most people wind up with diaper stink at some point, and the diapers will need to be "stripped".

One option is to boil them. The liners, that is.
Another option is to run them on hot with a bit of REGULAR Dawn dish detergent and then rinse, rinse, rinse. (Dawn makes lots of bubbles!)

Try adding a cup of vinegar or baking soda to the wash when you run them in the machine. It will help eliminate the smell.

I have the Bumgenius diapers and they say you're allowed to bleach them on the hot cycle, Liners and inserts, but I think on the fuzzi bunz you're only supposed to bleach the liners. You might also want to try a different soap for awhile. I use Charlies Soap Powder and it's amazing, it's also recommended right on the fuzzi bunz website.

A small "bloop" of Dawn dishwashing detergent in the washer. I CDed my kids for four years using the same diapers and that strips the stink right out. Has to be original formula, though.

What is a 'small' amount of Tide Free? Could you not be using enough? Try increasing it a bit (or get a cloth diaper laundry soap-Country Save, Rockin Green or Charlie's soap).

If 'small' amount is plenty, maybe the two rinses still aren't getting the soap out (Tide is notorious for 'sticking' to cloth inserts) and you should use even less.

Add 1 cup of baking soda to you're cold wash and 1 cup of vinagar to your hot wash. Double stink control and since you are not adding them both at once (and they are rinsed once in between) the effects will not cancel each other out!

Clearly, as you can see, the wash process is trial and error until you get it figured out! LOL!

Make sure your inserts are REALLY dry when they come out of the dryer, if you leave them a little damp, it will cause them to smell as well.

Soak in hot water mixed with BioKleen BacOut then wash like you would normally adding vinegar. Should work like a charm!

Good luck!
