Clotthes for Tall, Skinny 6 Year Old Boy

My 6 year old son is extremely thin and tall. I can not find pants that will fit him and that he will wear. They either fit around the waist and are too short. Or they are long enough but to big in the waist. I have tried the jeans that have the elastic inside the waist. He doesn't really like to wear jeans but instead sweat pants or athletic wear. Even the drawstrings won't go tight enough for them to stay up. What do I do?

What can I do next?

Go to the Children's Place. It is the only place I buy my son's pants. He is about a 2T in the waist and a boys 4 in length. You can take their pants up in the waist.

A lot of the pants for young children now come with adjustable waists. However, they still din't tighten up enough for my buttless, skinney grandson. So--I mearly added another button inside the waistband. When that worked so well, I even took some jeans that didn't have the adjustable waists, slit the waist band lining on the inside, inserted a piece of elastic, stitched it in tightly and added flat buttons.
Even if you don't really sew, you can figure this out.
Good luck and God Bless!

My daughter is very tall and skinny. I buy her jeans at Gap they tend to be slimmer and longer than most other stores. I even bought a few slims at Target which were very long on cut small in waist. As far as sweat pants same thing I buy gap, but usually will only find one to two pair that will fit her. You could take them into the cleaners and have them fix them for him. I have never done this with sweats, but seems like they could cut a little slit and sew the elastic tighter for him. You might even be able to do it yourself.

My daughter is the same way. I buy her jeans at Old Navy. They come in slim sizes and have the adjustable waist. I buy her a size bigger than what she is but in a slim. That way I can adjust the waist to fit and have a long enough length. I also like them because even though I get a size bigger they don't swallow her in the butt or leg area. Also Old Navy is always having sales on their jeans.

Good Luck!

My son is a tall and skinny almost 5 year old and we have the same problem. He HATES to wear jeans. His favorite pants are fleece or athletic type pants. I have to buy him a 6/7 so that they are long enough, but then they are too big in the waist. Usually if I tie up the drawstrings and roll down the waistband he can keep them up. Sometimes the pants will be a little loose but won't fall off.

My son has always been tall and thin. The ONLY pants that fit him well are Wrangler jeans slim size. You might have to take them in a bit on the waist but they look so much better than the big baggy pants. Also I would suggest using a child belt if you don't have one already. ")
Call some Western wear places in your area and see if they carry them. I go to Sheplers in Mesquite near Town East Mall. You can also get them online but a try on would be better in the store.

Ditto on the slim sizes. My older son was like that and still is (at almost 16) and I've not found a perfect solution. Just look for jeans that are styled more slender and try to get the slim size. Lands' End has a decent range. Although, they don't do slims as I recall for the athletic wear. My son also sticks primarily with the athletic wear (and only wears regular pants when he absolutely has to - church, school uniform, etc.) We just have to buy a size larger to get the length, so it's usually the basketball style shorts vs the track ones (so Academy is a good place to look). He gets around the overall waist size by wearing lower down (I don't necessarily recommend, but that is the only thing that works for him and I think he over does it!).

It's often trial and error, but when I do find a brand and style that fits, I buy duplicates and every color.

Quite interestingly the cheaper brands (i.e., Target and Walmart) are often cut more slender to save on fabric, so you might try there.

Do you know how to sew? If you've got rudimentary skills, you should be able to open the seam in the back of the waist of the sweat pants and pull out some draw string (or elastic) and sew together from that end, cut off excess and sew the hole back together.

my son is 3 and has like no butt...lol. He's long and tall, but the pants were always sagging. If you go to www.myselfbelts.com they have some belts that can help and they are reasonably priced. You just might need a couple and that will save you the search of having to find special jeans or whatnot...just get jeans that fit length wise and use the belt for the waist.
