Hi everyone,

Does anyone know how to get the coffee taste out of a coffee urn? I want to use it for hot water, but it's been used for coffee so the water tastes like coffee. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I would try distilled white vinegar as mentioned below.

Our a heavy solution of baking soda and water..maybe make a paste and rub the baking soda in where you see coffee stains..and then add more bakingsoda/water and let it sit for a while.

At work, we use this stuff called Brew Rite to clean out the coffee urns. We also separate the coffee and hot water urns so we don't have the taste issue with the water pots. This has helped!

The ingredients in Brew Rite are: Sodium Carbonate, Sodium Precarbonate, Dodium Dodacyl Benzen Sulphonate, Sodium Tripholyphosphate and Phosphate Contant.

I found some online:

Try some coffee pot descaler. We use it in out regular pot and it gets it really clean. We got ours at kmart on the coffee pot ilse. I would think that you could probably get it at target too.

White vinager does it, I think. Diluted with water, soak it overnight.

Hi - the best way I have found to get the taste out is to use salt, ice, and lemon halves. The salt acts as an abrasive along with the ice. The acid in the lemon helps make the taste go away. If the urn is made of a metal that will react with the lemon don't use it. Swirl away and rinse with warm water. I have found that this method works great on our glass coffee pot, along with my tea pot. Good luck!

I don't know where they would sell this, but I use to be a barista and we would use urnex in our coffee pots to get it cleaned out. If you can find it it works super.
