My daughter is a senior in HS and looking for colleges with good nursing programs. Do you have any college suggestions that she should investigate? So far we've looked at OSU, Mount Carmel, Xavier, and Univ. of Cincinnati. She wants to stay in Ohio, but (considering UK) trying to avoid out of state fees.
There are waiting lists, but she could still enroll as undeclared and then transfer to the program. There will be a long list of other electives to take before the nursing classes. Good luck to her, I am an RN. Best thing I ever did for myself....had gotten a Bachelors in Psychology first which was a waste. Followed up a few years later by my associates in Nursing. Great field!

My daughter is at Xavier, I know they have a top business school. Didn't read much about nursing. I know she has little regard for U of C, mostly considers them education failures but I think that is based on their basketball team so that that for what it is worth.
I can ask her tomorrow and get back to you.
Is Ohio different from Missouri? Here you get a discount at the state universities but there is no difference with private schools like Xavier and the like. What I mean is there is no difference for my daughter to go to St Louis University or Xavier except the drive. Tuition is pretty much the same.
Oh be warned a good nursing school is as hard to get into as a med school. SLU has a waiting list at two years last I checked.

I am not sure about those schools, but I just wanted to echo the other posters that Nursing school is very competitive, so she needs to have top grades in all of her classes no matter where she goes. I am currently in my second semester of Nursing school. I got in on the 2nd round of applying and only had 2 B's for my pre-requesites. My school isn't wait-list- it's just the best grades get you accepted. There are people in my class who waited 3 years to get in, so just make sure she is on top of those grades :) Good luck!

I work for a large hospital in Dayton. We find the best stdents are from a small college called Cedarville. They have a great reputation and work their students hard. The hospitals seem to like hiring students from that college.

College of Mount St. Joseph. it is hard but the reason its so competitive is because if the number of people applying. With the economy and the thought if the "nursing shortage" it seems like a safe bet job. Even nurses are having trouble finding a job right away. sometimes its two months, Mt brother in law was 6 months. (He only had his associate degree)
Other questions to ask the college is how many of them pass their NCLEX exam on he first try. UC nursing school is fine too. I didn't go there bc I wanted a smaller school. I have friends that went there and it was fine.

My daughter is in a nursing program earning her BSN. Nursing degrees are very difficult not only the classes but to just get accepted is quite an accomplishment. My daughter luckily got accepted her first try and only about 1/4 of the people applying got in. Of the 1/4 that got in only about 3/4 are still in, they just couldn't cut it. Her second year she was very close to changing her degree but we talked her out of it. If she really wants to do this she should talk to the schools and see how many get accepted and how many that start the program actually graduate with a nursing degree. Also, how long it takes for the average person to finish. Good luck.

My brother-in-law went through the nursing program at Kent State University (near Akron). He did great with it and had no problem finding a job. Good Luck!
