We recently found out that we might be moving to Colorado for my husband's work. We are able to choose any area to live. Does anyone have a family friendly and affordable area to suggest? We just love our Olathe school and community and would love to find a similiar area. Thanks for any help.

Hi, K.! We moved back here from Colorado Springs almost three years ago and highly recommend the area. The cost of living is maybe a little higher than here, but pretty comparable when you're comparing it to the Denver area. The people are very friendly, and there are great schools there. It's not as big as the Metro area, but Denver is only about 45 minutes away.

Good luck on your move! Enjoy Colorado :-)

The Thornton area (northeast Denver) is a great area with good schools. It is more affordable in north Denver than south Denver but the really great schools are in south Denver in the cherry creek area. We lived out there for a while and are hoping to move back to Denver some day. We absolutely love it out there and go back to visit all the time. Good Luck

How about Parker. A nice growing young community in the Denver Area.

You will LOVE Colorado! It's such a laid-back, outdoorsy, friendly place. I really miss living there. I went to CSU in Ft. Collins and loved that town. It was about the size of Overland Park, a small-town feel with all the big city amenities. It's about an hour north of Denver by the foothills so you get the beauty of the mountains without having to drive in them in the winter. The town is bigger now - I was just back for a reunion a few weeks ago, but it's still got the same vibe. Longmont and Loveland are also great towns a little south of there. Congratulations and enjoy it!!

We lived in Parker for almost 4 years and LOVED it! We chose Parker because at the time,we could get more house for our money than areas we were looking in Aurora & Highlands Ranch. I don't know what the market is like now. We try to get back as often as we can to visit friends & ski. We were just out there over Labor Day weekend and it has grown so much - a LOT like Olathe. Good luck.

Just a hint...if you know what city you might be moving to (Denver?) you can change your zip code on your mamasource profile and post in that area to get responses from the moms there. Then you can change your zip code back to the Olathe zip you have now.

My sister and her family live in Longmont which is between Denver and Boulder. It's beautiful and moderately priced. She is about 40 minutes from downtown Denver, about 30 minutes from Boulder and about 20 minutes from Estes Park. It seems to me that if you are going to be moving to Colorado.... it makes sense to be close to the beauty of Colorado and all that it has to offer!
