Hi mamas! My husband has recently lost his job. We are looking to relocate, and are considering the Colorado Springs area. I was hoping to hear from some mamas who have lived there what your thoughts are. What are the best neighborhoods? Our housing budget will be around 250-300K, though I would like to stay lower if at all possible so we are not house poor during this time of transistion. What about schools? Hospitals to work for? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

What can I do next?

Well, we like it here. What you need to do is to call a Realtor. The city hospital is about to be taken over by someone else, so perhaps there will be some openings. Colorado Springs is a large city, so there is variety both in housing and in schooling. Please send me a message if you'd like the number of a Realtor (who is a friend, but that's not the reason I'd recommend her! She really is good at her job).

Quite a bit of CS was on fire a few mos ago, I would guess real estate might be at an all time low.

Whenever we move, and I have moved 34 times, I choose my neighborhood based upon the following priorities:

#1 best public school, specifically the high school, then choose an elementary school that leads into it.

#2 - easy or short commute for my husband so that we can all see him on a regular basis.

I have never moved any where without a job first. So I think finding employment is the number #1 top priority. All else will fall into place afterwards.

I'm sorry to hear about your husband losing his job. It must be scary not knowing your future.

I lived in Colorado Springs, close to the Garden of the Gods back in 1992 and I absolutely LOVED it there!

One thing to remember that a house in your price range anywhere in Colorado is going to be significantly smaller than what you're probably used to.

When we live in Colorado, our house was in that price range...so was my parents house in KS...their house had almost 1000 more sq ft than ours! Makes a huge difference.

We lived North of Denver...but I would say Colorado is a great place to live if you can afford it!

I'm sorry about your husband's job loss!! We were there for 10 months (July 2011 to April 2012)...

We have several friends in C-Springs. They are military so they live close to Peterson AFB and The Academy....Larson Area, I believe...

I have lived in CO and I didn't really like Colorado springs. I liked the Denver suburbs better. Colorado Springs is pretty, but there's not much to do unless you like hiking etc. It's also a big military area, which is fine if you're in the military.

I also didn't like the Aurora area. My favorite is Golden, Lakewood, Arvada areas - most of those have fairly decent schools. I don't care for Douglas county, Arapahoe county, etc. Too many houses, too crowded.

As far as the house price there are many developments that fall into that range all over the city. The fires were on the west side of I25 in the north side. I would suggest that you do a google and get a realtor to help you and show you areas. Can you go to Colorado Springs for a few days to do a look over? That will help you get an idea of lay of the land Also the newspaper is online. I think there are four hospitals in the city.

The size of the house and the style of the house is going to be differnt than that in Texas.

I go up a few times a year to visit with son, DIL and grandson.

Good luck in your move.
