Coloring My Hair

I am/was a natural blonde but since having children and getting a little older my hair has turned into not so pretty of a very dark blonde. I really do not have the money or time nowadays to go to a salon and have costly highlights and on top of that go back every 30 -60 days to maintain the color. I am a chicken at doing anything really to my hair but have been considering getting something from the store to do color myself - can anyone share there experience/advice with at home coloring kits? Would you recommend the at home kits, if so, which one? Thanks

i have colored my hair at home many times. would be best if someone could help you at home..just to make sure no spots are missed and it gets applied easily. my only concern would be that you have to be very careful when going lighter so you dont damage your hair. one shade darker would be much easier/safer to do yourself.

I also do not have the funds to have my hair done the way I really would like to so I color at home. I have had both good and bad experiences. Highlighting is best so you don't have the distinct line when your hair grows out but it's also more difficult to do by yourself. If you have a friend or willing husband who can help, it will be much easier and yield better results. Find a color you like, follow the directions (although I admit, I never do a strand test, or wait so many days before adding a new color or trying again)and go to it. Also, I would recommend setting aside a chunk of time (without kids) so you can devote your attention and wash out when it's time. Good luck to you!

I'm a dark ashy blond and I had only trouble trying to lighten it up myself. I started with box color, moved on to mix your own color from scratch, to bleach. And every time my hair got worse. I fried it so bad that at the salon to corect the color I had to sign a waiver that they're not responsible if my hair falls off :). I have a lot of yellow/orange pigment that you can't see from natural color and it doesn't come out easy. After having top salons struggle with the color I wanted for 3 years I'm going back to natural. I guess, my point is be careful if you don't know how your hair reacts to dyes and go a step lighter from what you think you want.

Commercial dye can fry your hair. It quickly become a once a month habit, and it's not all that good for you. If you would like to consider some natural alternatives, check out this site:

Im a mom and a hairdresser and live in the virginia Beach area. i work in a salon but do hair on the side. i have many clients who have children so i go to their houses or they come to mine. I charge 1/2 of what the salon does. I am expanding my buisness so that i can cut my hours at work. the salon takes 55 % of what i make so i benefit if i do it at home. if interested contact me. i have 12 years experience in the hair industry. Anyone reading this can call too and i always quote before i touch your hair. no unexpected charges!
