Complexion Issues (Acne)

I've recently broken out with pimples on my neck, chest and shoulder blade area. I feel like I'm back in high school or something. Last week I got poison ivy on my chest/neck and coupled with the pimples I look a bit scary! Does anyone have any advice on what I could use for the pimples (the poison ivy is going away - slowly...) My skin is somewhat sensitive so I use a lot of neutrogena stuff. I haven't changed anything (detergent, soap, etc...) recently.

What can I do next?

Hi J. -

I have a great line of natural acne products. It helped my sons go away with in 3 days! I tried using it myself every other day and it is wonderful, doesnt dry out the skin.

I will share a tip I recieved when I got large acne, lets call them volcanos (that is how large they were!) on my neck to use moisturizing lotion. I was shocked but it worked. The reasoning is this, your skin is so dry, it produces more oil, thus the acne.

Try using a good moisturizer 2x's a day on your face and neck. If your interested in the acne line of products shoot me an email.

Best of luck w/ the poison ivy, I have had it for the past 2 years so bad I have to get steroid shots and look very frightening! I am hopeing to avoid that this year!

Try using witch hazel. I used to use that alot when I was younger and it dries up the oils as to prevent pimples. you might want to see a dermatoligist about it though. It could be something simple as a reaction to the sun or something. Hope all goes well.

I just got over poison ivy and in the end I discovered(believe it or not) rubbing alchohol.
It dries the poison and totally takes away the itch. I will never waste my money on anything else again. As far as the acne try hydrating your self with ALOT of lemon water. eat alkaline foods-anything green, avacados, flax oil, salmon, raw almonds, sprouted grain breads, etc. Most of us are dehydrated all the time and also have an acidic body PH. When we're acidic our bodies default to our predisposed issues.

My cousin just went through the same thing as you have described minus the poison ivy. She went to the doctor and was told her acne turned into a bacteria infection because it spread to her neck and shoulders. They put her on a 3 month antibiotic and within 2 weeks it started to clear up. So I would check with your doctor because it could be the same thing. Hope that helps :)

Maybe it is hormones. I went through that when I was in my 20's. I tried everything. I was contemplating Accutane, when someone suggested that I get on birth control pills. They worked like magic.

Hi J.,

I would totally reccommend Arbonne's line of skincare products they are 100% botanically based & PURE, SAFE & BENEFICIAL - perfect for sensitive skin!
They have a great acne line - i have been breaking out along my jaw line (probably from the phone!) and am using the acne lotion it has been amazing!
Also if you look at the ingredients on your Neutrogena you will see gelatin - this is an animal bi product! Arbonne has never tested on your used animal ingredients in any products ;) & because of that there is no perfumes or dyes to cover up the nasty smell!
Check out the website for more info. & good luck!

I'm sure you know that Calamine lotion will help with the poision ivy. Maybe the pimples were the start of it and will go away when your done with the posion ivy..

I once had gotten small pimples on my upper back and realized I wasn't rinsing my body wash off well when in my morning shower. So I took more time to rince well and used baby oil on the area and it went away within a few days.

I also ended up having a skin reaction from skin products that had oatmeal in them.

Also, I've gotten skin reactions from stress which start off like tiny pimples....Zyrtic taken as needed which can now be gotten over the counter helped with that...If you are on other meds, check with your doctor first.

And if you are on medication check to see if this problem isn't a side effect from any of them. You can ask for a print out of the side effects from your pharmacy.

Hope you find what works for you soon.....

I have sensitive skin, too. My dermatologist recommended Cetaphil for my face and Aveeno lotions. I use Oil of Olay on my face during the day, and a little Aveeno body lotion with oatmeal extract all over my body...and a little on my face at night. I like how thick it is for nightime moisturizing. I also use Oil of Olay body wash (also, like the Cetaphil, soap free.) Hope that helps!

Hey there, skin issues really suck!!! Don't worry, things will clear up. I know I tend to break out on my chest sometimes and I use Neutrogena body clear body wash. It has salicylic acid in it which helps to clear breakouts. This hot weather isn't helping either. You could also use toner or an astringent on a cotton ball or pad and swipe it over the area. I also use my face cleanser which has glycolic in it on my chest area to help. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water too, our skin is the biggest organ in our body. Any other skin stuff let me know, I am a medical Esthetician part time, stay at home mom the rest of the time. Good luck!!!

my favorite products ever are from Arbonne. they don't use any mineral oil, so the ingredients actual enter your skin instead of sitting on top of it. there is an acne line (which i have used too) but really my skin got balanced out much better with the RE9 anti-aging line. i buy at www.forthecause.net. and you may want to consider registering to buy wholesale. they have amazing stuff for kids too!

Hmm...I experienced similar years ago. I was advised to make sure that I thoroughly rinsed my hair conditioner out before washing my body with whatever soap I was using. Could be that your hair conditioner happens to be irritating your skin. You may also want to use a soft washcloth to wash as opposed to one of those scratchy plastic poufs until the acne recedes. Counterintuitive I know but the rough stuff including facial masks actually irritates acne. My only credentials are that I've been selling Mary Kay on and off (at the moment, its off) for years since my early 20s (I'm now in my early 40s!) and as I indicated earlier, I had a similar situation years ago. Best!

Hi J.,

Go nontoxic and fragrance free. According to the Environmental Working Group fragrance can contain up to 100 chemicals in it.

Even neutrogena has chemicals in it. Google the skindeep database to see which skin/hair care are safest.

Lavender oil from Young Living Essential Oils works fast and effectively for acne and many other skin issues. It also is calming for baby, just apply to bottoms of feet.

If you want something natural and powerful check out S.-healingoils.com Apply the lavender topically. You can alternate with the acne prone oily skin serum. These products are not only natural but often miraculous.

The essential oils in the stores are adulterated and often contain impurities. Young Living oils are so purely derived and safe that most plant oils can even be ingested for a variety of conditions.

Any health related questions, feel free to find out which oils to use and how.

Best wishes,
S. c

The wild hormonal changes can do this to your skin. Believe it or not, Proactiv (yea, the one from the infomercial) has worked amazingly well for me.

Hi J.,

You might be allergic to the laundry soap or other toxic products in your home. Even though you used them for some time, your body might finally react to the ingedients. I recommend switching to nontoxic, environmental products in your home. I could suggest a source which could save you money as well.

I am sure a thousand have already told you -- buy some Proactiv from tv or go to the website. I am now officially 45, have been using it for at least 5 years and my skin rarely breaks out anymore -- I wish I had this in highschool. It is worth every penny and I am so not a naive tv buyer. Good luck. You will be so happy you did this. A. mom of two boys
