Dear J.,
I'm sorry to hear about your situation. I had an ectopic pregnancy from an IVF cycle in 2005, and I found it difficult to recover from emotionally -- it was my first pregnancy. The doctor was suspicious because of the low numbers, but the ectopic was ultimately diagnosed by a high-quality ultrasound. I had to have surgery to end the pregnancy, and the doctor removed the tube in the process (it was already scarred from endometriosis, which my doctor thought might have had an effect on why the embryo implanted there).
My next IVF cycle did not result in pregnancy, but the next one after *that* did -- I gave birth to perfectly healthy twin daughters in 2006. So it can definitely happen!! Good luck and take care of yourself,
A.
