Considering a Move to Orland Park, IL

My family and I moved to IL a couple of months ago. We are looking for a house and considering a move to Orland Park. I was wondering if anyone who lives in Orland Park can tell me what they like about living there, especially from a perspective of a family with kids. We have preschoolers and I want to be sure that we move to a place where there is plenty to do (sports, nature, etc.) with learning opportunities. What types of things do you do for fun and recreation? Do you like the schools? I think our children would be attending the Carl Sandburg district.
Thanks!

There are great schools. Tons of sports/parks/ice rinks/even waterslides! I live in Palos park but grew up in Orland Park. Everyone I know goes to Orland for all their kids sports. As far as nature there are a ton of forest preserves around here...plus Brookfield Zoo is only about 20 minutes away! Orland is a big town...it has a lot of everything :)

You'll get a lot of bang for your buck in Orland Park. Also, Sandburg is a great high school. It is definitely not a 'walk everywhere' type of neighborhood with lots of trendy (i.e. expensive) bars and restaurants and seems more like a family-friendly community. Although we live in the city, I grew up in suburbia and consider Orland Park to be 'classic suburbia'. There's plenty of access and parking for the Metra if you want to go downtown. We actually will be moving out of the city soon, and Orland Park is at the top of our list on our second tier of neighborhood choices - not because it isn't good but because it would be a longer commute for me.

Good luck with your search!

drive around the block you want to buy a house on and make sure there are kids on the block. If you must, stop and talk to people on the street. I hear so many stories about someone moving to a new house and they are the only ones with kids. It's very important that there are lots of kids on the block (your kids ages). Makes a huge difference.
