Consistent Diaper Rash: Cholorophyll or Vinegar?

My 20 month old son has had diaper rash consistently for the past 2 months. It ranges in severity, but more often than not it causes him to complain that it hurts. We've been using Triple Paste. However, when it really flares up, that only slightly lessens it. I have heard about people using chlorophyll or apple cider vinegar to help the rash. Anyone know if this actually works? And if it does, how do you apply it?

What can I do next?

My son also had a reaction to the diapers I was using. I changed from Huggies to Pampers cruisers and it cleared up.

When my daughter had a bad diaper rash, a friend suggested browning (not burning) flour in a dry pan and applying it with the diaper cream. I listened, but had not intention of trying it sounded like it would never work.
Fortunately, my mom was present for the conversation and browned some flour for me. I worked.

I don't know why, but it might be worth a shot.

Brown it in a dry skillet and use it like baby powder.

My daughter gets diaper rash all the time, even now that she is potty trained and out of diapers. We have had the best luck clearing it up with straight aloe vera gel. We keep a big plant in the house and just use the pulp straight from the leaves. Does a great job!

good luck!

S.-Change your diapers-he is having a reaction to the bleach used--you need to get the seventh generation or a diaper that does not contain that. Go to diapers.com--order bulk-free shipping and they have the best prices!!

Hm, I can't say that I agree with what the others have said, I have had two babies and never heard of having a reaction to the diaper....and with cloth diapers you DEFINETLY do not use a baby detergent.

Whenever my kids get a rash like that that lasts for a long time, it is usually a yeast rash, and zinc oxide or vaseline doesn't do anything to help as they are only skin protectants, to help protect the skin from wetness. If the rash has definite borders and is kind of spotty (like in circles) it is probably yeast. Here is a picture to compare:

For yeast rash you need an antifungal cream. I use a generic athletes foot cream (Clotrimazole) from Walgreens for 3-4 days and the rash that would not go away FOREVER is then gone. Other antifungal creams would probably work too. Good luck!

Hi S.,

Are you using disposable diapers or cloth? My son was sensative to certain disposable diapers. He could only use "Huggies". They kept him dryer than the other brands. If you're using cloth diapers, you should be washing them in the Ivory Snow or the other ditergent that's espically made for baby clothes.

You'll have to change his diaper more often and use vaseline on him after every diaper change. That helped my son with his diaper rash, not to mention my bothers and sisters when they were babies.

Good luck. Happy holidays!

Yes, you may have to change your diapers. I buy 7th Generation from Amazon (cheaper and no Chicago taxes..) You can also try EVOO on his diaper rash, I have a book on healing remedies using EVOO and they use it for both cradle cap and diaper rashes. It may be something he is eating, anything new in his diet that may have caused such reaction? Take any notes. Hylands has a diaper ointment you can buy at Whole Foods, it is homeopathic and works great (just like their teething tablets).

Good luck.

I think apple cider vinegar will help if it is a yeast rash. You can give him frequent shallow baths with a cup or two of apple cider vinegar added to help neutralize the yeast bacteria. I guess how you handle it depends on what's causing it. If it's yeast, I would give him the baths, put yogurt on it at every diaper change or every couple hours (the probiotics in yogurt kills yeast), and give him diaper free time (yeast breeds in damp envirements w/o air like a diaper). I'd also feed him yogurt or give him a probiotic supplement w/ acidophilus.

If it's not yeast, it could be as others have said, a reaction to the diapers or even a food allergy.

Another thing I've noticed w/ my son is he tends to get a rash when I feed him something acidic, like tomato sauce. That may be a reason why apple cider vinegar is helpful b/c it helps alkalize your body.
