Hi B.,
I have the same exact problem, but mine started when I was 15, and I would get my period every other week. I went on birth control pills at that age and used them up until having my 3rd child at the age of 33. After that I had my tubes done and hoped the problem wouldn't return, but six months after I started having 14 day periods. The first time at 15 I had become anemic before the problem was addressed so this time I made my doctor give me options right away. I didn't want to take the pill any more so she suggested Mirena, which is an IUD which lasts 5 years at a time. About 8 months after having it put in, my periods stopped completely. I might have a little spotting, but so far it has been 5 or 6 months between these episodes. If you can't go to a GYN right now, you could maybe do Planned Parenthood or a walk in clinic and get a prescription for Birth Control. Don't let yourself become anemic because that could add many more problems to your health. I wasn't allowed to walk up and down stairs for a couple of weeks because they were afraid I might faint and fall down them. This time around they tested for pre-menopause and endometriosis and found nothing. They never did have a definitive reason why it was happening and I got tired of trying to remember to take the pill at the exact same time every day. If I forgot I would either start bleeding by the end of the day or have breakthrough bleeding after intercourse, so I know how tough this is on you. I really love having the Mirena because it is a lower dose, than the pill I needed to work, and I don't have to worry about the bleeding at all now. My husband loves that part too!:o) Also, the cost for the Mirena is a one shot deal when it is put in and I don't have to pay for the pills every month anymore (mine were $38 a month) or pads and tampons. I just keep one box of panty liners in the house. Whatever you decide, you do need to see a doctor to rule out any serious causes, but if they can't find any problems you still have options. Sorry this is so long but I hope this helps give you some options to look into, and eases some of your concern.
