My little 13 months old son has been constipated for the last week. When I changed his formula to whole milk (gradually) he started facing this problem. I have tried any home remedy possible (Prune juice, Peach, grape juice, veggie, high fiber foods, olive oil, hot water bath…) none is been working. Do you have any suggestions? He goes number 2 every day but he forces himself and he is in pain.

What can I do next?

I would definitely say lessen or stop the milk. That is the problem if you haven't changed anything else, sounds like he may have a sensitivity to it. I think most of us do, we just don't realize it. Try going back to formula, and talk to your doctor about this.

We had the same problem- and a good, ripe avocado mashed up was the most amazing cure. I think he ate between 1/4 and 1 avocado a day! He is still prone to this issue, so we keep the avocados around... High fiber can actually make some kids worse. He may have a milk sensitivity- you might want to consider alternatives (almond milk, etc and supplement with nuts and some dried fruits which are high in calcium).
Best of luck to you and your little guy...

My little one was on 1/2 cap of Miralax a day for almost a year due to her constipation issues - talk with your pediatrician about it - for us it worked wonders. It wont make him go - it just acts as a softener so its not so hard for him. You also might want to look into a children's probiotic - our pediatric gastro. recommended it for our little one and it really helped keep her regular...good luck!

Ask your pediatrician, but a little bit of mirilax might help. It may help to soften it up. My son used to have terrible constipation, but I think he may have been a bit older, but Mirilax really helped.

Sorry your son is in pain. Give him water and LOTS of exercise. Fiber needs water to work, the exercise keeps things moving through his system and not stuck, so to speak. Let him run and jump around, kick a small soccer ball to him and have him run after it to keep him moving, keeping a sippy of water for him to drink as he warms up. Offer him water and fruit to eat instead of juices, he doesn't need the sugars, even if natural, and fruit has the advantage of having water and fiber in it.

My guy had a problem with constipation, this worked for him.

I copied this from the livestrong.com website.

Milk is a filling beverage, and if your toddler drinks too much of it, he may be less likely to eat more filling foods later. He needs solid, bulky foods in order to pass stool, so avoid letting him fill up on milk, instead. According to Babycenter, he only needs two to three servings of dairy a day. One serving of dairy is 1/2 cup of milk.
Treatment
To help relieve your toddler's constipation, try offering him water or prune juice. Feed him high-fiber foods like plums, prunes, apricots, peas, beans, broccoli and whole grains to get things moving in his digestive system. In addition to milk, cut back on low-fiber foods like cereal, white bread and bananas. Babycenter also recommends that you massage the belly below the navel for three minutes at a time to relieve constipation.
