My son is 7 months old he has not had a bowel since last Friday. Today is Wednesday and still no luck. Does anyone have any tips I could have to help my son get a bowl? His diet contains of organic carrots and squash right now. He is drinking water too. Thank you moms in helping me in this matter.

What can I do next?

Gina,
I second the advice on giving him prunes. I had tried the dark karo syrup but that didn't work for my child. I know many people have had success with that though. Before trying anything else I would call the doctor first. Good luck.

I second the prunes. Please don't give him any type of medication-natural or otherwise- without checking with the pedi. Both my sons went through a time with constipation when they were getting used to solids.

Cooked carrots can be a MAJOR cause of constipation. I would eliminate those immediately! Also, a good home remedy for relief is corn syrup (Karo). Add a couple of tablespoons to a bottle of warm water, shake/stir and give it to him. This works wonders!

Prune are sometimes hard on a baby that young. Try putting flax seed oil (1 tsp) in his bottle.....or give him 1 ounce of dilute organic apple juice (he will love it and it will definitely help get things going as well. Both of these recommendations were given from my pedi after my daughter was constipated too.

Mix 1tsp of karo syrup with 2oz of warm water and give in a bottle or sippy cup. It works every time with my baby.

Check with your pedi about opening a capsule of probiotic into his milk. I don't remember how old my son was when his doc recomended it. I used the Culturel from Walmart and put it in his rice cereal. You can also Google benefits of probiotics. It is good for all of us for many reasons. Some apple juice might help in the mean time. Good luck.

Prunes definitely but use them with caution. Don't feed him too many- one container in a day I would say. I only use this trick for special occasions with my daughter too as she also has days of constipation too.

I would try prunes. My daughter had the same issue when she started solids. We tried everything else and then gave her 1/2 container of prunes and that seemed to do the trick. She is breastfed and still at 9 months she still has bowel issues and I try to make sure she has 1/2-1 serving of prunes every few day or 2 oz of juice. Every baby's system is different and sometimes it may take some time to adjust to solids. Good Luck:)

We've had the same issues with our son. I would try giving him some prunes. If that doesn't work try adding some flax seed oil to his veggies - it's good for him and should help get things moving! If he seems like he's in pain I would call your pediatrician. You may want to anyway to see if they recommend something specific. Good luck!
