I have several Mini DV (camcorder) tapes that I would like to burn to DVD. Any idea how to do this?

A couple years ago I took 2 VHS tapes to Creve Couer Camera and had them transferred to DVD. It was rather expensive (maybe $100 if I remember correctly?) for the 1st DVD anyway, and then the extra copies were much less expensive.

If you have a DVDR then you just need to get the cables to connect your camcorder to the DVDR and record directly to it. Go to your local Radio shack and they should be able to help you out. It's really easy once you figure it out and cheaper than having Walgreen's do it every time.

You have to project the tape onto a screen and then digitally record that. Or you could just call Steven. Here is his website http://pixilatedpictures.com/ He's really good and pretty cheap. He's transfered a whole lot of my family's 8mm film.

First, I am assuming you have a computer that can burn DVDs.

Second, you should be able to connect your DV camcorder to your computer via either a firewire or USB connection. Check your manual and it should give more detail.

Finally, you need the software to edit (if you want to), convert the files to the MPEG format then burn to DVD. Here are a couple that are pretty easy to use:

Adobe Elements (you can get just the Premiere elements for your DVDs or get the Photoshop/Premiere elements for great still editing and photo slideshows)

Pinnacle Studio http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us/Products/Consume...

Roxio Creator:

It is very fun if you are willing to invest just a little time to learn to get started. You can do your own menus, themes, etc. Or, you can always take them to Target, Wal-Mart, Walgreens, etc. for the quick solution.

Take them to Walgreens, they do that.

Your camcorder should have had a cable to plug it into the computer along with a program to do just that. If you don't have that cable or program, I would recommend taking it to Walgreen's.

DVDs will last as long as you can keep them from being scratched. The tapes will degrade. If you are going through the trouble make two copies, one to view and another as a backup or you can back up the CD with a thumb drive or an external hard drive (the second option will last forever).

You can buy the machine at any electronic store to do it yourself or you can take them to Walgreens and such stores to have it done. Hang on to your tapes though because experts say these DVDs will not last as long.

Good luck,

I wouldn't bother trying to do it yourself, goto http://www.gotmemories.com , they only charge $4.99 a tape, did a great job on ours.

I agree with an earlier response, check out CostCo. I remember seeing a sign there and I think it is pretty inexpensive. Good luck!

You can buy a Sony DVDirect for under $200. It's very simple to use. You buy a cable that connects the camcorder to the recorder, connect them & as soon as you press the record button it starts your camcorder. You can also use this for photos. Depending on your computer there's also ways to connect your camcorder to your computer & burn a DVD from there.

Check out Costco. I recently saw they are now converting video camera tapes to DVD's. I dropped off one 8mm tape a week ago to see how it comes out. If it is good, then they will get a lot of business from me as my safety deposit box is full.
