Is anyone out there like me, a creative mom who does lessons, arts and crafts, etc. with your kids but wants to expand it to other kids and include parents? I have tried so many times to have friends over for play dates where I will do all the work and I have NO takers. I find that this is the most unnatural state of motherhood, not to mention childhood...to be isolated! I realize gas prices have a lot to do with this but if there's anyone near central Boca who would like to join forces, PLEASE contact me!!!

You sound like a wonderful mom! If you live in a development, you should set up your easel or other equipment some time in your pool or picnic area, and the neighbors will find you! Years ago when we lived in Virginia, there was a store called Zany Brainy that sold arts and crafts,science kits, and other articles designed to develop kids' creative abilities, and the store used to hold free workshops where a woman like yourself would work with the kids on various projects such as storytelling followed by a related activity such as drawing or puppet shows. Why don't you contact the new library on Spanish River Boulevard and see if you can conduct a story hour there?
That would be great, b/c I am constantly at a loss on what to do with my 2 1/2 year old. I have not creative at all and my son loves to do crafts and art projects. especially on the weekends when it is raining cats and dogs and stuff in the house that would be great. Keep me posted.

I'm an Oma (grandmother)now to Violet,9+months and I remember the isolation. I had my 2 kids on Eastern Long Island and it was tough! I did get together with a few mothers once a week but it was pretty boring because the kids weren't interested in "doing" anything in particular, & the mothers were only interested in coffee klatching, where as my husband & I had businesses we were running... They noticed my restlessness & gave me an intervention, saying what I neede was to have another baby! I decided to get very busy with my children alone, doing projects, etc. and to hunker down for awhile. Anyway, I'd love to hook you up with one of my customers in central Boca. I'm going to see her next Sat. for her baby's first birthday (girl). She has a boy that just started preschool.

I live in Wellington, which may be a little drive but I would be willing to drive or meet half way. I am home with my 2 kids for the summer: Jake (12-20-06) and Makayala (3-2-04). I schedule learning time and craft time for both of my kids every morning for a hour or two. Currently, I am an elementary teacher on summer break!! It's always nice to have other kids join the fun.
There is also story time at local libraries that includes a theme and an art and craft. We go every Weds. and both of my kids enjoy this and there are many other moms and kids there.

I just read through your posts and thought I would also add my endorsement of the Seedlings program at Sunflower Creative Arts. My daughter Maya will be starting her second year there in September. She absolutely loves it! It really is wonderful and I don't think there is another program like it out there. Seedlings meets on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays from 9-12. On Wednesday afternoons, Susan runs a lunchtime "share & learn' where the moms can talk about parenting issues. It's a great community of like-minded families!
By the way, I am going to check out your website as well. It sounds like a great idea! We currently live in Lighthouse Point but we may be moving to Boca soon. . .
