Coping with Pregnancy Nausea

I'm on my second pregnancy, and I was very nauseous for the first 5 months of my first pregnancy, especially in the evenings. I didn't vomit much, but felt sick all of the time. I spent basically the first 5 months lying on the couch alternately sipping peppermint and ginger teas. For this pregnancy, that isn't an option! I have an active 11-month-old boy to chase after all day long! I can feel the nausea starting again, and I know I may have a long road ahead of me! Does anyone have any good advice for fighting off pregnancy nausea (besides peppermint and ginger teas, of course)? Thank you!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you to everyone who gave me advice. Actually, I was extremely lucky with this pregnancy. I am now 14-weeks pregnant, and I could count on one hand the number of days I was nauseous all day long. Evenings were the worst for me - but that worked out, too, because my husband is home in the evenings and was able to take over when I just couldn't handle it. I have no idea why my first pregnancy was so difficult and this one was comparatively easy, but I feel very blessed!

Amanda,

I know you said you use to drink ginger & peppermint tea. I wasn't able to find them, so I got a bag of peppermint candies. They are easier to keep in your mouth when chasing the little ones. I do understand not being able to just lay around all day... I have 2 1/2 & 4 yr old boys & a 5 yr old girl. Trying to keep up with them and all their needs is hard when I'm not feeling well. I keep the candy in the livingroom & kitchen since they are the main 2 rooms I'm in during the day. I was actually suprised at how much the candy helps :)

Also, I have found if I eat smaller meals I don't feel as bad. But I end up eating about 5-6 times a day instead of just 3. And have found that my best time for a bigger meal is around 2-3 in the afternoon since it's the time of day I feel my best.

Good luck & congratz on the little ones!!

You have my every sympathy , I suffered terribly in my 3rd pregnancy until I was 16 wks , started as nausea on the evening and rapidly progressed into full blown vomiting any time of the day , some days were so bad I couldn't even get my son to school!!....Anyway I found dry bread a help with calming my stomach , also toast. I know for some women ginger snaps work , try keeping 1 by your bed and as horrible as it sounds eat it in the morning before you get out of bed (sickness is supposed to be linked to the blood sugar levels , as soon as you are upright wham you feel nauseus). That's all the suggestions I have sorry , I hope you manage to find something that helps!!

Good luck

K.

I was sick the entire time for both of my pregnancies until I was given FTAN by my doctor. It is available @ Mar-Main pharmacy in South Bend since it is specially made for pregnancies. It was absolutely wonderful! I felt fine as along as I was taking it. You should discuss it with your doctor. They also will mail the prescription for those that are out of town or unable to drive.

furthest thing from your mind but eat! every few hours put something in your tummy (preferably healthy things) someone mentioned preggy pops but i found that regular sucker or hard candy helped too I had a pretty rough few weeks but i pulled through. i found that wheat thins became my best friend a few wheat thins and i didn't feel sick anymore. rest when your little one does. When he sits down for lunch sit down with him instead of running around. nibble on something and talk to him gives you a rest and a little extra bonding with your son :)

Amanda,
This may sound strange, but a friend of mine said that smelling a nectarine would alleviate her nausea. It can't hurt to try it.
