Corns on Son's Foot

What can I do about corns on my five year old son's foot? We got him new shoes and I've been trying to use the foot file to file them down after bath. We've tried putting lotion on them, too. Anyone else have any suggestions? I read that those corn pads do nothing and I'm not sure he'd wear them.

What can I do next?

My son had a similar issue when he was about 7, his foot had grown and he did not want to tell me he needed new shoes. We soaked his foot in epson salt for about 30 minutes each night for about 4-5 days. I also put baby lotion on his feet with his socks for bed.

Bought him new shoes, and some softer socks he was fine after that. He now lets me know when his shoes are too tight.

I wouldn't file down the corn unless the pediatrician recommends it. (just my thought).

This means that one or several of his shoes are hurting his toes because they are way too small.

My son is in-between sizes and so finding the right pair is always a challenge. We usually go with a bit bigger than just right.

He'll be four this month and already wears a 10 1/2.

Take him to a podiatrist. I have had these myself and they hurt. A good podiatrist can remove them with little to no discomfort.

When I had corns on my heal, due to ill fitting shoes, I felt a lot of pain there. The pads are to prevent rubbing and therefor reduce the pain. The corn went away in time when I wore the corect fitting shoes. I did nothing to make them go away other than to keep them from being rubbed. Have you checked with your son's Doctor? Weather or not to use the pads would depend on how much discomfort your son feels.
