Cotton and Chocolate Syrup Don't Mix

Ok, ladies. I get home from work this morning and discover my daughter's light pink cotton dress in the laundry room. "Why is this in here," I ask myself? I pick it up and it is covered in chocolate syrup! Not just a couple of spots. It looks like the chocolate syrup was dumped over her head. I'm not sure that I want to know how exactly it happened. Does anyone have any idea how to get all of that out??? My daughter loves her dresses and I am way to practical to just throw out an otherwise perfectly good outfit.

Hi T.,

I would try Zout stain remover. They sell it at Walgreens and Fry's, and probably other places. It works wonders.

Good Luck,
Steph

Oxyclean! The stuff is a miracle worker! I recommend using the pretreating spray and kinda cleaning it by hand at first... this stuff is amazing! You can watch it work. Then if you have some of the powder use that in the wash load too, it should come out. Good Luck!

Chocolate is a tough one for me. For some reason it always seems to linger longer than other stains. I would soak it in Oxy Clean or Biz and very warm water to get as much out as you can. Then, try Zout spray stain remover. You have to rub it into the stian with an old toothbrush or something and let it sit for a couple minutes before you wash it, but that almost always works for me. If you're determined to keep the outfit, just don't dry it in the dryer until you've got it completely out--that will just set it in for good. Good luck!

I highly recommend zout. This stuff even removes ball point pen off things with a breeze (I even used it of the leather seats in the car for ink). I used to use oxyclean and thought that was great 'til I found zout! Good luck

you could try Oxiclean it's what I use on all my sons stuff. If the stain is really bad like yours I usually let it soak in warm water and a little bit of Oxiclean first and then wash it.

The only product I know that works without a doubt is the Quick and Brite. I'd suppose you could leave it as is until you order a bucket for $20, or go to the mall, they sell "as seen on tv" products inside sometimes. GOOD LUCK!

Get some oxi clean powder make it up in a large bowl and let the dress soak in it. For a while, like an hour or more. Keep working at it. I've used oxi clean to get dried red wine out of a Tommy Bahama silk shirt, I have used it to get blood out of Linen. It should work like a charm on chocolate. The only thing that I haven't gotten out with oxi clean is banana, and that is because it is so fibrous and attaches itself to the fibers in the cotton.

Try OXY! I can usually get anything out with that. You can soak it in water w the OXY but for tough chocolate stains I dampen the clothing and put the OXY powder right on the stain. Let sit for awhile and wash as usual. Good luck

The ABSOLUTE best laundry product is SA-8 by Amway/Quixtar. There is nothing on the planet like it, guaranteed. I am NOT a distributor, but I keep a membership every year just to order their cleaning products, particularly the SA-8 and their awesome laundry spray, and LOC (liquid organic cleaner). These will get out anything. I never worry about my laundry or what my kids wear. they play in the yard in their church clothes and eat popsicles in whatever they are wearing at the time. I don't fret at all. I know it will come out with SA-8 and the pre-treat spray. I can't tell you enough good about it. If you want to order some, here is a link:

http://www.quixtar.com/

My member ID is ####-###-####. Please mention this when you sign up. You get a sizeable discount if you order as a member and not a customer, so I recommend you get a membership. It pays for itself in savings.

Again, I am NOT an active distributor, I just buy the laundry and cleaning products once or twice a year, but I have used this for 16 years and it's the best in the world!

Here are the laundry products I recommend the most:

http://www.quixtar.com/products/product.aspx?itemno=E0004

I buy this in the huge industrial tub once a year. It is highly concentrated and lasts forever. You will be surprised by the tiny, tiny, littly scoop you use. It has no fillers and will actually begin to break down the buildup from you other laundry products that is caked on the inside of your washer the more you use it.

http://www.quixtar.com/products/product.aspx?itemno=E0004

The spot treatment spray has gotten out rust and even nail polish from a new comforter, and a 10 year old stain from a packed away baby sweater, not to mention many other life-savers!

I also order the Tri-Zyme presoak for tough loads and the powdered bleach, which you cannot spill, brilliant. I prefer super smelly fabric softeners, so I buy mine at the store, since the Amway fabric softeners aren't smelly enough for me, but they are highly concentrated and work well, also.

I also mentioned the LOC, which got out an entire tube of fuscia lipstick from my brand new wheat berber carpet (thanks to my 2 year old) and you could not tell it had been there at all! There was no trace of it when I was done, no outline of pink stain, and it's safe enough to ingest, not that I recommend it!

There are many other personal testimonials I have for other products, but if you at last don't want to have to worry about your laundry again, I suggest you order some of this! Let me know if I can help to walk you through the process. Best wishes!

Spray and Wash DUAL POWER. It works like nothing I have ever used before in my life and I have even found that in some cases I can get out OLD set in stains too. Good luck I hope it works for you. It is not a pre-treater though. you have to be ready to do your wash in I think 5 minutes otherwise it can fade your garment.

this might take a while but if you put over a bucket or something like that and make it tight then pour boiling water through it it should take most of it out.

The best thing in the whole world is Biz. I soak all of my hard stains in a bucket with biz overnight and it hasn't failed me once. Just take it from the bucket ant put it in the washer. I even washed something red in with some whites and they went through the dryer before I realized it. Biz took all the "pink" out of my whites. It is amazing stuff. Good luck.

Well, I scanned the responses you have so far and wow, there's such a variety of stain removers everybody swears by! My husband is a dairy veterinarian and washes his coveralls and work clothes at home so you can imagine the stains we have! We use Tide detergent, with pre wash and a stain remover (spray n wash or shout or zout which I've used before and would like to get more of, whatever! I don't care too much for the oxy clean)

The KEY here is to NOT let it go through the dryer & heat set it before the stain is gone!

And for anybody who ever gets blood on the clothes - that's easy, you just have to soak it in COOL water (no such thing as cold water here in AZ, eh?) then wash as usual. washing in hot water sets the blood stain. Grass & mud is harder.

Try the same hand cleaner your husband uses when he has to clean his hands after working on the car....that orange hand cleaner works wonders!! On many things...not just the chocolate!! :-) Always try things that "isn't for laundry" before throwing an item out ESP. if your daughter loves that dress! If it doesn't come out (completely) the first wash just do not dry and try again with the next load! But, the orange cleaner should work well.

T., I use something called Zout. You can get it almost anywhere in the laundry isle. It has worked wonders for me. It has gotten out everything from yellow breastmilk poop to spaghetti sauce. I absolutly love it.

I once got permanent marker out of a sweater by soaking it for A LONG TIME in oxyclean (powder) diluted with water. I let it soak and soak and soak-- figuring if it didn't work the darn thing would have to be scrapped! It came out! This took more than a day (and longer) of soaking.
I have had bad luck with Shout, it has caused "bleach-type" spots of color removal. FYI.
Good luck!

Try dousing the dress with pre-wash like Oxy-clean or Pre-Spot from Melaleuca if you have it, the rinse in very cold water before washing. Good luck!

I wash my husbands work uniforms (grease, mud, oil) and have been pretty amazed at some of the grease/oil I have gotten out! I use Spray N Wash or Shout.

Get some of that and spray it on HEAVILY. Rub the fabric of the dress on itself. Just rub and rub and rub. You should start to see the stain becoming less. Then spray a lot MORE spray n wash and rub some more. Finally spray MORE, ball up the dress, place it in the wash and let it SIT for about 10 minutes. Wash.

If it does not come clean, REPEAT the spray, rub, spray, rub AGAIN. THIS MUST BE DONE BEFORE DRYING.

Should get that dress back to clean.

I always use Zout on the stains. Then when I launder the clothing, I use 1/2 Biz and 1/2 Tide. These three items get everything out. Martha Stewart has a website where she lists every remedy for getting out every kind of stain known to Moms also.

My daughter just got acrylic paint on my brand new curtains that said 'hand wash only' Great, I thought to myself, now what? Well, I happened to remember that my mom always used Woolite on blood and chocolate stains, so I poured some in our sink with cold water and the paint came out with very little effort. It is worth a shot!

If that doesn't work try washing a load of towels and the dress in Oxiclean. It has worked some times for us, but not every time, so I would definitely try the Woolite first. Good luck and let us know if it works!

Hi T.,

Putting dish soap (not dishwasher soap)on tough stains and working it into the fabric has worked for me. Sometimes you have to repeat the process a time or two. Just remember not to put the dress in the dryer until you are sure the stains are all out.

Good luck!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE...did I mention that I LOVE Shout ADVANCED action gel for set in stains. It comes in a 14 oz spray bottle that is blue. I have actually gotten out transmission fluid that was washed and dried about 10 times without any luck. The smell of oil was still there but the purple stain is completely gone!!!!! I have told several people about it and they have had the same results as me. I will never throw out an article of clothing with a stain again! The nice thing about this is that you don't have to order it or go through a distributor to get it...just go to the grocery store. Also, it is really affordable and easy to use. I never had any luck with oxiclean. Hope this helps!!
