Sounds like you need to take her to an Allergy and Asthma doctor. Sounds like asthma most likely brought on my allergies.

have her tested for allergies. she may be allergic to dust mites in her pillow or something. in the mean time put the pillow and all bedding on high heat for 30 min once a week. but not if it;s a foam pillow, put that in the freezer for 12-24 hours, and take it out 2 hrs before bed or it wont be thawed in time to sleep on (i learned that one the hard way! i also learned the hard way that foam pillows + dryer = fire!)

If I were you I would get a second opinion!!! Maybe it's allergies??? But whatever it is what he told you to do isn't working and she is uncomfortable! When my son gets sick I run a humidifier...and that helps. Good luck!

I agree with it could be allergies. My son has it - he takes Claratin mostly at night before bed. I alternate with zurtec too. Could be the heater drying her too maybe (?). Sometimes for my kids I'll run the cool mist humidifier at night when they're congested and dry coughing. Seems to help. I have friends who's children have to have breathing treatments everyday - starting right as they wake, because of asthma. It will be okay.. I hope you find something to help you guys. :)

check your A/C filter and change it often, check your cleaning supplies she may be allergic to something that you are cleaning with...I know go figure but it can happen. I do not buy cleaners at the stores I found a great health and wellness company online so I switched stores. Not only are we all healthier I do not have worry about how toxic the air that I breath in my home is...Love to share with you if your interested. Or you could always just use vinegar. If it works you figured out you are cleaning your home and poisoning your family. How clean could it really be then?

Get her on probiotics to make up for having had her on antibiotics, and build up her immune system.
I like Simplexity bifidus for children.
You are correct to link it back to antibiotics. Although there are times when it is necessary, you always have to make up the problem of killing off the good bacteria.
best, k

It could be allergies, could be asthma...especially if it is all the time. Does the cough get worse when she runs hard? If so, I would say asthma. My daughter has asthma and is on Singulair daily. Before that, she also coughed all the time, especially at night. Take her to an allergy and asthma doctor.

Your daughter may have athsma caused by allergies. Not uncommon at all. You may want to see a doctor who specializes in asthma & allergies. If you are in the Miami area, Dr. Colin or one of his colleagues at UM can help you. You do want to keep up with the nebulizer if this is what the dr prescribed. Her oxygen level can be very low when she is having an asthma flare up. ALSO ... VICKS vaporrub can make the symptoms WORSE for asthmatics, so you may want to cut out the vicks.

You can try Chestal which is a hemopathic cough syrup for symptom relief. Look for it in a supermarket or drug store. Otherwise I would do with the other moms have suggested below

For someone who has had a cough for years, you don't want to treat the cough but rather find out a reason for the cough so you can then treat it. My guess would be asthma, my son has it. If she is uncomfortable, that is not a good sign. She could already have damage to her lungs if she has untreated asthma. I am not trying to scare you but it really is something you need to get help for. I would make an appointment with an allergist instead of your pedi. You don't mention what is in the nebulizer. Is is two medications or just one? There is preventative medication for asthma and rescue meds for when they are coughing/wheezing. If the preventative med is also there and you aren't giving it to her, that is probably why she is still coughing all the time. But again, go to an allergist and ask for explanations so you can better understand it and help her. Maybe tell us the meds for the nebulizer and we could further help you.

she is probably asthmaticand needs the nebulizer has she been diagnosed asthmatic. dont not give her the nebulizer due to your pride. she is probably cough variant asthmatic like I am. if I am right and she has been diagnosed this she needs a daily inhaler and maybe an allergy medication. if she hasnt been diagnosed get her to an asthma allergy doctor. the antibiotics and nebulizer both doesnt make sense. they will need one or the other but not both. If I have bronchitis I get an antibiotic if its my asthma I take my inhaler if it doesnt work then my nebulizer. take her to a diffrent doctor what this one is doing doesnt make sense to me. and if it is asthma vics wont work and they wont have a fever. give her a hot shower as hot as she can stand it for the steam or a cup of hot tea and her nebulizer when she starts coughing. until you can get her to the doctor.

Sounds like allergies to me. Do you have pets in the home? Is she outdoors a lot? Is she at home or does she go to a day care? You need to start looking closely at things around her and see if you can find the cause. I put a vaporizer in my daughters room and that helped her a lot during the winter months when the heat was running. She is allerigc to everything other then elm trees. The more medicine the doctors gave her the worse she got. She is 22 now and vitamin C "Halls" seem to help her the most. Lots of good healthy fluids to drink. Avoid a lot of milk. Milk seems to make a cough worse. Also, look at what you use to do laundry. You may have to change what you use. Also, cleaning supplies, take a good look at what you are using and consider trying something else. And do not use windex on your windows or mirrors. Use vinegar and water mixture. Try the new Pledge for people with allergies. Hope all of this helps.

She could be having an allergic reaction to something..be it environemental or even food. Is there a lot of dust around her? Stuffed animals? Maybe stick those in the dryer at high heat for about 10min weekly to get dust/dust mites off. This helpede with my lil one and her congestion issues. It's also been discussed that gluten foods can cause coughing as a reaction...maybe look into eliminating some or all gluten type foods. Just something to think about.
