Hi S.,

All of my children (3) have had allergy and sinus problems compounded with asthma. Their doctor told me in order to dry them up use Dimetap but this may aggravate the cough. In order to clear them up to use Sudafed, this will get the fluid out of their system. Sudafed is the best medicine for colds in children with asthma, but it also works really well if you don't have asthma. I still use it and my oldest child is 19 and he uses it. Hope this helps.

I used to use everything form Benedryl to Tylenol and what I found that works best is Pediacare - I quites the cough and clears up the runny nose.

We just moved to the area and both my kids were having that problem. Claratin worked on our 7 year old but we had to get Zyrtec for our 7 month old. Hope you find something that works for your little one.

Hi S.

Try an OTC allergy medicine. They have "drying" agents.
My son suffers from allergies (food, environmental) - we keep a telephone book opened to the middle under the head of his mattress to keep him sightly elevated

I hope this helps!

Our doctor recommended the PediaCare Multi-Symptom, and it has worked well through a winter of cold after cold.

There are different types, the one I'm talking about is in the red box:

my son's pediatrician has always recommended benadryl which will dry up the drainage which will in turn help with the cough.

Look for meds with benadryl - the sudafed in that cold med you're giving her may be contributing to the runny nose - sudafed/pseudophedrine helps unclog nasal passages, benadryl (diphenhydramine) helps dry them up. Sudafed can cause them to get jumpy and not sleep too. Benadryl will make them sleepy, though. My daughter (8mos) just got her first cold, and I got Tylenol, benadryl, cough meds separately so I could just give her what she needed when she needed it.

I always prefered Motrin for when the kids are sick. I belive they also have a cough and cold in grape.

i thought pediacare is what helps the best. I use that for my two year olds and always stops the cough and the runny nose.

My six year old gets this from time to time ever since he was a year, the only medication that seems to work best is Dimatapp, we have been prescribed zyrtec also because he has bad sinusitis, but the Dimatapp works better than the Rx.

Hello! Have you tried triaminic? They have several varieties based on what the symptoms are. It may make your child sleepy (my son's 9 and it makes him sleepy) but different meds affect kids differently. Good luck!
