Allergies can get much worse when you're pregnant. A very mild dog allergy that you might not even notice normally can become really obnoxious when you're pregnant! I'm allergic to everything from my own 3 dogs to the grass and the pollen and dust, etc. When I'm pregnant, I'm MISERABLE because all of my allergies get that much worse. Plus, now is the time when dogs begin to to blow their coats, which means even MORE fur! If you are willing to take drugs, you can look into taking a daily Zyrtec or Clariton (both are sold OTC and approved for use when pregnant) and see if, in a week or two, you start to feel better. If this is not an option for you or you don't feel comfortable with it, get the dog bathed regularly (every 2 weeks or so) until the dog stops blowing her coat, and ask your BF to vacuum and dust daily. Then, after you have given birth, you can figure out just how serious this allergy actually is. Good luck.

It could be the dog or it could be other allergens (either related to the dog or others in the house). The only way to know for sure is to get tested. What cleaners do you have in your home? If nothing is new, it could be a result of long-term exposure to things that have been there all along.

Sounds like you know the answer....not fun...I know. I am very allergic to dogs, and cats....and if they lick me I start itching really bad. Yuck! Sorry.

You are also pregnant... so I would be REAL careful about taking anything for it. Don't. Unless your OB/GYN approves it.

Its not necessarily the dog it could be other allergens that are coming in with the dog. When a person is allergic to a dog its dander and saliva not hair. You could always get tested.

I had a cat for 10 years and became allergic to her during my 3rd pregnancy. She does not go outside so she wasn't bringing it in with her. Every time she gets near me or lays down on something that touches my skin I break out in bumps and get very itchy. Then my eyes itch and my sinuses go nuts. So, I believe you could have developed an allergy to the dog. My allergy did not go away after the baby was born. My son is now 3 and I am still allergic to my cat. I try to pet her when I can because she is so old and probably doesn't have much time left in her, but I wash up immediatly after. Considering that this is a young pup, you may consider finding it a new home. Best of luck!

Have him clean the whole house and vacuum it thoroughly...every where the dog steps foot or lies. Meanwhile, the dog is at the groomer or given a thorough bath to get all the dander off. It's not the fur, it's the dander. Anyway, you should be okay then and get used to the dander.

I am not allergic to pets but if a pet is shedding alot and is in need of some grooming, even I can sneeze. I think dogs really need to be bathed every week to two weeks. Cats need bathed too, yes, even indoor ones like 1x year.

It will be sad if he has to get rid of the pit because unless he rehomes the dog himself, she will likely be euthanized. Most dumped dogs are pits, at least 50%! Just so you are not under any assumption that the dog will be re-adopted from a shelter. It's an FYI. If he got the dog from a breeder, he could MAYBE return it but breeders are just wanting to make cash. They aren't in it for the welfare of the pet..

But seriously, try what I said. I can have people in my home that are allergic severely to cats because I will vacuum thoroughly AND give the cat a bath. (Thats another story but I know how to do it quick and easy.)
