Could It Be a UTI?

Yesterday, I took my Daughter to the Dr because she suddenly had a fever and was complaining of a sore throat...Dr gave a strep test which came back negative but he did say her throat was pretty red. However, the fever is still present as of this morning and she has drank 3 4oz juicey juice boxes and had a few sips of orange juice and half a popsicle and has only peed twice and both amounts were just a tiny bit. She doesn't complain of any pain or burning? I want to hold off going back to the Dr if possible since we were just there yesterday...just curious if I would KNOW for sure if she had a UTI? Would she be complaining or are those signs that I listed? Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

My daughter complains of a tummy ache when she has had a UTI (pelvic area). Sometimes she'll run a fever, but not every time. Her urine will be cloudy and dark and have an usual smell. She has had them with and without a burning sensation. Maybe wait a day and see if any symptoms get worse or new ones show up. Call the nurse and tell them she's still running the fever and has the sore throat. It may be viral and there's not much to do with that but keep hydrating her and wait a few days. Hope she feels better soon!

No. If she had a UTI she would be complaining of burning and pain when urinating, and possibly some blood in her urine. She also would have cramping, and a frequent urge to urinate. She may or may not have a fever, but I don't think she has a UTI at this point.

If she has a sore throat, she most likely has a cold, or virus. I would continue to give her Tylenol, and make sure she is drinking lots of fluids. I would try gatorade, and diluted juices. Sometimes, children when they are sick do not urinate as often. It is the frequency that they worry about more. When my son had the stomach bug, he had not urinated in a while, and the nurses had told me that if they do not urinate within an 8 hour period, that they could be dehydrated. So it is important that she drinks alot of fluids.

Colds, sore throats especially don't last for more then a week. lf it is strep, it would get worse. If it is a regular sore throat, they typically lessen over a three day period, and stop after a week. This goes for a fever as well. Typically they last for about 3 days. If both continue over a week, or do not show any improvement, I would take her back to the doctors.

I don't know your daughters age, but my daughter used to get them. She started when she was one. She would have a fever and be in pain anytime she would pee. She grabbed herself and cried.
I know you didnt ask about this, but i think one juice box is enough. That is 100% juice and its not diluted. Your daughter needs to drink more water. Which should help with the peeing and if she has a fever she needs it.
