Could This Be Cancer?

I have a wart, mold looking thing on my eyelid. I started "growing" it about a year ago. It has changed color and shape. It does not hurt at all but people have been noticing it alot recently thinking I have something on my eye. I just had lunch with a girlfriend who had skin cancer on her face removed, but it wasnt raised and wart looking. It actually was flat. I guess I am concerned now about having it looked at. I mean what happens if it is cancerous? In the back of my mind I have wondered if it was cancerous but no one has ever come out and said something until my girlfriend did and now I am a little scared. Can people die from skin cancer? What happens if I don't get it checked out? I need some support and advice on this. Thanks girls.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well I have great news. I went to the dermatologist yesterday. The moles I had her look at including the mole on my eyelid were all NOT CANCER!! She cut the "skin tag" off my eyelid, which I might add hurt ALOT and then used a liquid to stop the bleeding which also HURT ALOT. She used liquid nitrogin on one mole that I didn't want on my shoulder and WOW that hurt too. I now have 2 scab looking sores. once the scabs fall off, you wont be able to tell anything was ever there. I am so relieved nothing was cancerous. Thank you all so much for your support on this issue. I was so nervous. It hurt but it was worth it in the long run. Thank you again.

T.,
Sounds like it could just be a skin tag but I'd get it looked at. After all it's better to go in and find out it's nothing, than put it off and find out a decade down the road that it is something serious that could have been easily dealt with earlier. Don't forget cancer usually spreads.

Don't be afraid. Get it checked, better safe than sorry, and skin problems are the most common form of cancer (which in many cases is benign. Any cell that chooses to do its own thing is considered cancerous, so don't let the word horrify you.) And on a side note...I "grew" a witchy mole on my nose over the course of two years back when i was a kid. Now, I am stuck with a huge wart like mole on my nose. I look so cool on halloween, you wouldn't believe it!

Hi T., If you want advice from someone in a medical profession, get it checked. Don't assume it's either way, OK or cancer, until a doctor tells you. Put your mind at rest one way or the other though. I've seen many people who have simple procedures done successfully-it's the things that are neglected that turn into problems. Best of luck to you and I'd be interested to hear how you make out. L.

It is entirely possible that what you're describing is a surface melanoma, which are usually benign. It could also be simply a wart, which are caused by a bacterial infection; you won't know for sure until you visit a dermatologist. If you're in the Concord area, I recommend Dr. Anthony Aversa; he's on Loudon Road, right next to (wait for the irony) McDonalds. Just be calm and proactive for now; my sister had a similar growth on her face, right on the eyelid, in fact, had it removed with a cryogenic wand, and hasn't had a bit of trouble since.

HI, I WOULD GET IT CHECKED BUT DONT WORRY! IT SOUNDS SIMILAR TO SKIN TAGS I HAVE WICH MY DOCTOR SAID CAN GROW FROM STRESS OR ANYTHING. EITHER WAY HAVE IT CHECKED. THEY CAN EASILY REMOVE IT.I HAVE HAD IT DONE. THEY INJECTED SOME STUFF IN IT WITH A NEEDLE AND IT WITHIN A FEW DAYS FELL OFF. OK, LET US KNOW WHAT HAPPENED.

Hi T., Please, please, please, go get it checked out NOW! With cancer you have to move quick! The sooner the better for you. Most cancer, if caught early enough, is treatable. Also, your state of mind can be a factor too. Try not to worry, cancer can feed on fear, anxiety and worry. Think positive, and think healing and you'll be just fine.
God Bless.

For your own piece of mind - please get it checked out. I lost my best friend last year (she wasn't even 50) to what started out as a 'funky mole' under her chin. She was diagnosed with skin cancer, but apparently by they time they got it, the cancer had already metastasized to her lungs. So skin cancer alone can be cured/put into remission, but if it waits too long - it can spread. All it takes is one tiny lymph node to be cancerous. You're much too young to worry and have a wonderful life. See a doctor and put this to rest. I wish my friend would have gone to the doctor when we first bugged her.

Hi T.,
yes, please go get that looked at. I went to the dermotologist about 3 months ago to get a mole on my arm looked at that one of my friends was worried about. While I was there, I had her check my whole body. The mole on my arm was fine, but I had to have a flat one taken off of my back! Right underneath my bra strap. It was pre cancerous and It was starting to spread underneath my skin. I had to have 8 stitches. I never would have known if I didn't get checked out. I'll be 39 in January. And yes, you can die from skin cancer if left too long. If caught early, they can usually take care of it.
Best,
S.

YES! Yes, people can and do die from skin cancer!
See your doctor as soon as possible. It may be just a wart,
but if people are looking/staring at it or it is worrying you,
then it is affecting your quality of life.
If your doctors agree that it should be removed, they will probably do so in a Day-Surgery. The sample will then be analized for cancers. After the analysis is complete, the doctors will consult with you about a course of treatment.
Because it is on your face, your may want to consider having a plastic surgeon's consultation.
Your health is of the greatest concern at this time in your life. You will now be making the decisions that will prolong or shorten your lifespan. It is not too late or too soon to be making life-saving changes. Your family still needs you, even if they are 'all grown up'. Please do not delay; for your own sake and theirs.

Good luck and blessed be
