Counselor Recommendations for Minnetonka Area

With the recent birth of our second child, we are having some difficulties adjusting and both my husband and I have been interested in going to some counseling for awhile. I think it's time that we see how this can help us. The difficulty is finding someone that we both like. We're looking for someone who can do Marriage/Familly and Individual counseling---being that we are not sure exactly which approach is what we need. Any recommended counselor names would be greatly appreciated.

In addition to this, it would also be nice to hear if anyone has had similar difficulties transitioning to parenting 2 children and/or had a husband who really struggles with dealing with the needs of infants. The crying specifically just puts him over the edge quite quickly and brings a lot of tension to the house.

What can I do next?

I saw Michele Laney in Maple Grove to help me through my divorce. Two of my children also saw her for awhile for the same reason. She is a marriage/family counselor and sees couples, families, and individuals (kids and adults). My kids and I really liked her easy, non-assuming style. If you're willing to drive up to Maple Grove, I recommend giving her a try.

My family has used Mulliken Counseling Center for years. From individual to marriage to children counseling -- Carole Stafford has been wonderful! They are located in Edina off of Hwy. 100 and Industrial Blvd. I know there is a man in that office as well, but have not experienced him. My hubby and I both really enjoy Carole. Good luck!

ps -- the transition is hard -- we are waiting for #4 and it won't be any easier for us either! Work hard and you'll get there! :)

I would highly recommend Ron Keller and Associates - he is located in Plymouth and I really like him. I have only done couples counseling with him - although I am sure he does individual counseling too. Good luck!

We are in the same situation. Our son is 2 and our daughter is 4 months. It's definitely a difficult time. There is a lot of tension. My husband and I fight alot. I think it's pretty normal, because it's a really tough time. But it gets a little easier every day and I think the tension will lighten up too. I have thought about counseling too, but I don't think we really need it. Good luck to you though.

My husband and I both like Pathways in Golden Valley. It is Christian based counseling but religion is never brought up, in fact I also have a friend that is Jewish that goes here too. We see Rich Graske but I have heard good things about all of them there.

My husband and I can both strongly recommend Relate Counseling in Minnetonka.

We did both individual sessions with separate counselors and joint sessions with one counselor. I can't vouch for every counselor, especially because each person's preferred style of receiving counseling is different. For our joint counselor, we had an initial appointment with one counselor, did not feel right with her style, asked for a different one, and loved working with her. I believe our joint counselor's name was Arlene. She was a great fit for the type of personalities my husband and I have and what we wanted to accomplish.
Our counseling was for our relationhip before kids but we would not hesitate to go back to Relate, to her or another counselor, if the need arose.
Good luck.
