Olive oil...Rub it on the baby's head and let it soak in for a few minutes. THen, I would use a soft toothbrush to very gently brush off any flakes. Be gentle and give it a couple of days to get all of the cradle cap removed.
does anyone have an alternative meds treatment for cradle cap
Thanks for the response. I looked at an earlier request for the same issue and have decided to try the holistic product recommended for the cradle cap.
Thanks again for all of the support.

British Society of Homeopaths includes cradle cap as condition that needs professional treatment http://www.homeopathy-soh.org/about-homeopathy/what-is-ho...

Rub her scalp down with A&D ointment (the brown tube) and wipe it off. Works like a charm.

Hi Y.,
We also used baby oil on the scalp, let it sit about 10 minutes and then combed the scalp real good during bath time. Our Pedi said that it was safe to use a little bit of Selsun Blue to wash their hair once or twice a week until it is gone, too.

I used a little of the vasaline and a soft bristle toothbrush and it worked very well.
Try not to use anything that has baby oil, mineral oil, petroleum, as they are going to plug the pores instead of taking care of the problem and this is not a holistic way to go.
Sensaria Natural Bodycare makes a jojoba oil that has nothing in it and it is just like the sebum in our skin. I offer a 20% off discount for first time customers if you want to try it:o)
When my children had it we would rub olive oil on their scalps (you can also you baby oil) and let it sit for a bit (10-20 minutes). Once it has softened up gently comb it to loosen and wash scalp. Hope that helps.
A little olive oil or grapeseed oil (found near salad dressings at the grocery store) rub it gently in the scalp and let it sit for a few minutes and gently comb it out with a fine tooth comb. Or you can do it before bath time and rub it out gently with a warm wash cloth and warm water, but do not use too much shampoo, it can irritate the skin. After bath time, dry scalp thoroughly with a dry towel. This routine worked for both of my boys who had just mild cases of cradle cap. Don't worry about it too much though, other than being a bit itchy for baby, it is mainly cosmetic.
My Abuelita from Mexico suggested breast milk. It works wonders (I have also heard that it can be used for other things). I would pump to feed my daughter, and what she didn't drink, I would rub into her scalp. And Voila. It was gone after a few times.
Good luck.
Use Vaseline. Plaster it on the head at night time, then in the morning gently use a fine tooth comb to comb away the scaly parts. Then keep head clean and moisturized. Vaseline is a wonderful moisturzier.
a little olive oil rubbed onto your fingertips and gently rub her scalp, but not with your nails. Baby will love the scalp massage as well.
Put some olive or other natural oil on the baby's head. Let it set for a little while so that the oil will loosen the cradle cap. Then use a fine toothed comb (like the ones they sell in the baby depart) to gently scap the cradle cap off. Don't get in a hurry. It doesn't all have to come off the first time. Then shampoo the baby's hair when you bath the baby.
I remember putting white vinegar with a q-tip on my son's scalp. The pediatrician advised that. Good luck!
Head and Shoulders shampoo worked for my daughter!
I also used Olive Oil... worked excellent! Also used it for the dry skin my little one still gets behind her ears. Apply, wait a few minutes and the dry skin comes right off. Best of luck! :)
Don't forget to use a soft brush and scrub their little head with the oil in it. You can also use dandruff shampoo but you have to be REALLY careful not to get it in their eyes.
both of my kids got pretty significant craddle cap and my pediatrician said not to treat it. That it will go away on its own and it took seemingly forever but it did go away on its own. WhenI would comb their hair, several flakes would come off and we'd just get rid of what came loose but we didn't try to get rid of it. It can be a bit ugly, but medically, its completely normal and wont hurt them at all.
Y.,
You can massage coconut or olive oil into her hair before you wash it. After a few times the cradle cap should be gone. Since the flakes actually come off with the oil it is a bit messy, but it works.

My son is bi-racial and BOY was his cradles cap a pain! Just getting it off the scalp was one thing, but then getting it thru his super curly hair was a project. Here is what I learned: Use coconut oil on baby's head before every bath. I would put it on liberally and then after letting it sit for about 15 to 20 minutes I would use a brush or comb to help sluff off the cradles cap and I would massage his scalp in the tub. It took about 2 months to get it all off. Good luck grandma!
My daughters are all in their twenties but I remember putting ointment on their little heads and at times I would take a fine tooth comb to get the loose scales off. One day it will "poof" be gone.
Olive oil worked great for me. Apply liberraly to the head and wait for 5 minutes then wash or brush off with soft baby brush.
Hi Y.,
Try Olive Oil or Arbonne's Baby Oil (which also works great for eczema). You do not want anything that contains mineral oil (Most baby oils sold are pure mineral oil, which clogs the pores of the skin). Massage into scalp after bathing and leave on for twenty minutes than gently massage off. May take two or three days.
Congratulations on enriching the life of your granddaughter.
