My daughter will be 2 months in a few days and she has a serious case of cradle cap that we just cannot get rid of. We have used baby oil, olive oil, baby cream and massages with all of those to try to loosen the skin/rash, what ever you call it and nothing seems to get rid of it. I have recently started taking some oil either baby or EVOO and let it soak in for awhile and then using either a facecloth or a baby brush and then massaging her head to try to nicely loosen the rash but even that isnt working. She also has it really bad on her face and that seems to be really dry and I can only imagine what it must feel like to her. So like I said I am just trying to keep it moist so that it doesnt itch or hurt her but I would love any tips that you have to help actually get rid of it

Thanks in advance

What can I do next?

What my mom showed me that worked, was to rub baby lotion or oil on the baby's head and take a very fine baby comb or lice comb and very lightly comb their hair. I couldn't get rid of my sons cradle cap for 3 months! I tried this and it was gone that day and only came back if I didn't put lotion on his head. He also had eczema and it really helped clear that up on his head too. I hope this helps :)

I have a weird story about this. My oldest son had cradle cap ssssoooo bad! By the time he was 6-7 it was so thick you couldn't brush his hair in that area. He had a hard time at school too...kids can be mean. Anyway my oldest daughter got lice and the shampoo wasn't working. I called my mom and she told me to put mayonnaise on everybody (real mayonnaise) and sleep in shower caps. Then in the morning rub in warm water and comb through everyone's hair using a nit comb and comb it out. Well to my huge surprise my sons cradle cap came out completely! I couldn't believe it! We had tried EVERYTHING and nothing worked. I could see his scalp for the first time in years! We were all so excited for him. Every so ofter we would have to repeat the process and it always worked. After you comb, wash with Dawn dish washing soap and follow with a conditioner. Anyone who has a problem with this I tell them this story because it works!! Good luck!

During bath time, use 'cradle cap care', let it soak on the patches, and then comb it off with a fine tooth comb. It worked like a charm for us.

During the day, moisturize with aquaphor ointment if there are dry patches.

Just don't rub/scrub too much or you will abrade her skin.
Baby's skin is so tender.

Just as soon as you think it will never go away, it will.
My son had bad cradle cap as an infant. Then one day it just got better.

They actually have products for this that work well but I used baby oil and a comb nightly before putting my daughters hat on and it didn't last that long-I think for cradle cap your suppose to use vegetable oil letting the oil soak in for fifteen minutes to soften the scales before using a baby brush to remove them. good luck

You're doing this in the bath tub right? That's what our pedi said to do. It does take a long while for it to clear up.
For the dry patches on her face, use Eucerin Cream every night. That will help.

Even though cradle cap seems like a problem with dry skin, it actually is greasy buildup, so oily products make it worse. What worked for us is Sebulex shampoo (2-3 times per week). The only place I could find it was on amazon. It is what our pediatrician recommended and it cleared it up. Good luck!

When my daughter's cradle cap caused her to have a hairline like an old man, I finally gave up on all these methods (which were not helping at all) and bought some Head & Shoulders. I alternated it with the regular baby shampoo. It only took a few washings to clear it up.

We used mineral oil and a hard comb. Just put it on generously and massage it in. Then start picking at it with fingers and the comb. Yes, the skin looks really "new" underneath, but you're not going to hurt her.

I did it over the course of a few days...put on mineral oil prior to bathtime, pick and peel, bathe. Repeat the next day.

If that doesn't work, look for Dr. Bronner's soap. I hear it works miracles. :-)

I second the suggestion to verify with doctor that the face stuff is cradle cap and not eczema.

Or doctor told us not to worry about cradle cap. It's not usually very uncomfortable so there's no rush. Our son's is just now clearing up completely and he's 3. The dr recommended an anti-dandruff shampoo but that freaked me out a little. We used Neutrogena t-gel a few times and that helped. You could also opt for tea tree oil, which will help too and is much gentler.

are you SURE it is just cradle cap? With it on her face it sounds like it might be eczema. I would ask her Dr at the next apointment just to be sure.. It does sound like you have tried everything. One thing you can try to help it is to use an all natural shampoo and baby wash or something with oatmeal (aveno is lovely) and hopefully that will help!! GOOD LUCK!!
