Go with your gut, lol. Buy some of the foamie sun visors and let the kids decorate them with crayons and foamie stickers. Then they have a craft they can use.
HI, We are hosting a BBQ next weekend and we'll have lots of little ones under age 9. We'll have the usual array of outdoor games and toys but I was hoping to set up a simple craft table for some down time. I am not good at arts/ crafts at all and foamies are about as advanced as I get. Does anyone have any ideas that do not require a ton of direct parental supervision? Foamies and some crayons may be my best bet but I thought I'd ask around a bit.
As an aside, I have a box of 1000 popsicle sticks left over from something......

It is hot out, get some bubble solution and one of those buckets that has an assortment of bubble wands. Do you have an area they can use side walk chalk on?
I just did a bunch of craft projects for our family vacation. One idea that might work would be blank picture frames, with paints and foamies. I had a 24 pack of washable paints, 2 cups full of paint brushes, and 2 big bowls of various foam stickers. The kids can do as much or as little as they want. Take a group photo and print it out for a souvenir. The kids loved it, and clean-up required the hose and some pick up foam backings. They came up with some great designs/colors etc. Tie-dying was another day, and lots of fun, but probably more than you want to get into (requires them to bring items, adult supervision, and some craftiness/desire...more work for you for sure)
You can also get the big blank craft paper sheet and have them make their own place mats, using the popsicle sticks as the 'border'.
