I am 9 weeks pregnant and without fail right around before I eat lunch and afterwards (way into the evening) I am suffer from cramp, bloating gassy feeling.
This happened during my 1st pregnancy and unfortunate that’s all I keep remembering of that pregnancy because I was miserable. I use to chew on 1 GasX but hated that chalky taste and it really did not give me relief, I took it out of desperation. I have tried everything, not been hungry for so long, drinking water before or after or soda , walking around and I cannot seem to shake this horrible feeling. It is so uncomfortable it makes me want to throw up, and so far(fingers crossed) I don’t have any other symptoms.
Has anyone suffered from cramps, bloating and gas (yes all 3 at the same time) and found some relief, preferably non medicated. Help I really want to enjoy this pregnancy, the 1st time round did not start this early, it started around 6-7 months.

Thanks so much

Try putting a peppermint in warm water and letting it melt a little or just suck on a peppermint or half of one. That settles stomaches well. A gassy baby will also enjoy the 1/2 peppermint in a bottle of warm water.

Anything with ginger in it. If you can stand the raw ginger, grate some and make a tea...if not, gingerale is good also. I also lived on Tums with my first one, liked it better than Gas X or rolaids and it had additional calium. Also, if you are taking additional iron, you may want to switch to Slow FE, it is a slow acting iron and didn't make me as bloated and slow.
Good luck!

I had the same problems with my first 2 pregnancies and for my 3rd pregnancy I switched my OB. She recommended I use a stool softener; Colase is the prescription name, but I used the generic. I felt so much better. It keeps everything from building up inside. I felt like I was so bloated all the time and my first Dr. told me it was normal.

I had the same thing during the first trimester but it was so bad it did cause me to vomit. Honestly, I made a few dietary changes that helped significantly and it quickly went away. I cut out foods that commonly cause gas such as broccoli and beans. I stopped drinking through a straw which was causing me to ingest more air. Also, I cut out all carbonated beverages. The couple times I did get gassy and bloated following my dietary changes, I wore very loose clothing to prevent any unnecessary pressure on my abdomen. When I started to feel that way, I tried to stay on my feet as long as possible. Sitting down only seem to make it so painful that I would start to vomit. Staying active and on my feet allowed the gas to pass much more quickly. If fact, now that I look back, after changing my diet I only felt sick twice and both times I was stuck in a situation where I had to stay seated. Good luck!

if cramping is severe you should see your dr. right away, that can be a bad sign. if it's just mild cramping it's probably just your muscles stretching out and there's nothing you can do about it. as far as gas and bloating have you tried the GasX pills? they work pretty well for me. otherwise you will just have to stay away from trigger foods! esp. spicy, any beans, certain veges, etc.

I had the same problems (all through pregnancy because I have practically no waist so I end up having no room for stomach and accessories to fit once I get past a couple of months...). I used TUMS, and they worked well for me. Plus, they give you extra calcium. They are a little chalky, and some of the flavors made me nauseaus (sp?) but the green minty kind worked fine, and if I followed it up with a glass of water it wasn't too bad.

GOod luck.

I drank prune juice for cramping, bloating and gas during my second pregnancy. It is all natural and really did seem to help me.

Dear A.,

I know you are miserable; I think Shaklee's Stomach Soothing Complex might be a good fit. I've used Shaklee products since I was 30 and began in 1980. They are amazing and safe products from the world's finest ingredients. I was getting lots of gas recently and the Stomach Soothing Complex helped allot. Contains peppermint and other herbs.
Here's a bit of info now:
Stomach Soothing Complex*
90 tablets / 30 servings Peppermint, Ginger, Fennel, and Anise.

Herbal Relief for an Upset Stomach*
If your travel plans include driving or flying somewhere, then plan ahead if you get motion sickness. Using a blend of herbs that for centuries have calmed upset stomachs, Stomach Soothing Complex eases motion sickness and its accompanying queasiness and nausea. It makes the "not quite right" stomach calm again.*
I can also pass along info on getting a phone consultation with Dr. George Wootan, family practice doctor for 40 years; father of 11; and grandfather of 23. He's amazing and retired now; is 70 years old and looks like an active 50 year old. Check out www.smartmomsnetwork.com and read his bio.
He's written a book on managing your kids health; it's really good.
Looking forward to visiting with you more in the future.

You have gotten a lot of good advice. I would also like to say that cramping on your right side could indicate a gall bladder problem. It generally gets worse during pregnancy. (It is usually after you eat, about an hour or so, and can be due to greasy foods. You may also feel bloated and "full" like your food is not going anywhere) This happened to me,and it was at first after I ate and then it was just all the time. YOu may talk to your doctor if you feel that it will not go away.

Hi A.,

The first thing to do here is look at your diet. Remove all possible gas producing foods. This includes broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, cabbage, dairy products, grains and beans as they are all possible offenders. Soda and caffeine also will not help the problem either. You can try removing one food at a time to see if that is the issue. Also avoid spicy foods as well.

If you do not get relief from dietary changes there may be other things you can try, but start with this first.

I have six kids and had this with all my pregnancies. The ONLY thing that worked was Gas-x (or similar generic product). They have pills, small little liquid filled gell pills, that you can take and don't have to chew the chalky ones. Simethicone (gas-x) is very safe and you can't overdose on it. It's the same thing you give babies for their tummy problems.

Just know that you are going to need to take one or two before you eat something and that will usually kick it before you actually get it. Night time was always the worst for me, so I started taking one before bedtime also.

You also need to learn what food tends to make you more gassy. Broccoli is a killer to pregnant women and nursing moms for that matter. Avoid the foods that make you worse.

I feel for you, I've been there myself plenty of times!

Well I myself have had that horrible feeling when I was preg. as well.HONESTLY I tried EVERYTHING!!! One thing that did help was no more fast foods or spicey foods. I had to eat dinner at like 6:00 at night So, I didn't lay down right after dinner. Oh and I also had to cut off all soda's because that seems to make it worse.Hope some of this helps. I know it's very frustrating.

A. I don't think you have tried everything. Have you tried Tahitian Noni Juice? Well it's great for pregnant women and the baby. I can send you brochure if you are interested. You can email me here ____@____.com is a couple of testimonials:

Title: 41 year old first time mom!

I became pregnant with my first child at 41 years old, and that is a red flag for many health care practitioners. I wanted to have a natural birth, so I watched my diet very closely and took noni juice every day. I did not experience any of the typical side-effects that many pregnant women do. No nausea, back-aches, tiredness. I even worked up until the week he was born.

When I went to the hospital to deliver, I only took an 8oz vial of noni juice with me for the pain. I wont say it didn't hurt, but I didn't ask for anything stronger! After the delivery, our midwife said that she wished she would have taped it, because it was one of the best deliveries she had ever seen.

Joshua is now almost 4 years old and has never suffered from diaper rash, earaches, headaches, flu or lack of energy! What a blessing to have a healthy, vibrant son because of noni; "a Gift from God".

Title: Didn't experience many pit falls of pregnancy

I started drinking noni juice for good nutrition when I found out I was pregnant. It gave me increased energy and lowered my stress levels in just a few days. I drank noni juice every day during my pregnancy and never experienced many of the "pit falls" of pregnancy, such as morning sickness, mood swings, lack of energy, and headaches. When I went into labor I drank an ounce of noni juice every hour, and did not use any pain medication for delivery. I delivered a healthy nine-pound baby boy. He was very alert after birth. He was able to lift his head and focus his eyes on me while nursing. My midwife was amazed at my 48-hour check up because I had almost no swelling or soreness. I had such positive results with noni juice that I began giving a fourth of an ounce to my newborn when he was a few days old. He likes taking noni juice; it is the only thing I've given him other than breast milk. I've noticed slight differences between my son and other babies his age. He rarely cries, sleeps easily, and is very attentive when he's awake. At two months he had complete head control and started rolling over. I don't know if his development and temperament has been effected by noni juice, but I'm glad to have such a healthy, happy baby boy.

try eating small frequent healthy meals instead of three meals a day. Don't ever let your stomach get empty. Also, ppermint and chamomile settle the stomach, try sipping on some tea. Gas is unfortunately a common ailment of pregnancy & like mentioned earlier if you let your stomach get empty when you are pregnant it can cause nausea and cramps. I suggest having grapes, crackers, nuts (minus Brazil nut because of the radiation), etc. around as food you can munch on through out the day. Also, if you are not having at LEAST 32 oz of water, dehydration can cause similiar problem and much worse. While you are pregnant you should try drinking as close to a 64 oz or more as possible, it will actually help you not retain water if you are well hydrated.

Don't know if this will work for you or not, but I took papaya tablets during my pregnancy and they relieved a lot of the symptoms you are having. I would get the tablets from a health food store (GNC has them) as the ones I've seen in the grocery store have fillers. You can chew a couple of tablet before and after meals and they taste good. I used them when my boys were little and complained of stomach aches and 9 times out of 10 they did the trick.

I would definately try digestive enzymes and probiotics like yoghurt. If you want to really go hardcore try drinking a green smoothie every day with fresh raw greens in it. It would cure your digestive problems and give you tons of great vitamins and minerals to the new baby being formed.
I have a 2 and a half year old boy and one of my best friends has a just turning two year old boy. Maybe we can get together for a playdate sometime. <____@____.com> We live in South Austin.
