Creative Ways to Tell My Family I"m Pregnant

Hi Mommies, I'm looking for creative and cute ways to tell our families that we are expecting our second child. The first time around I gave out "congratulations on your grandchild" cards and wrote, "Baby (last name), due to arrive November 2007." This went really well and I wanted a memorable and sentimental way to tell our families about baby number two.

Thanks in advance!
A.

So What Happened?

Thanks for the great ideas everyone! I made my little girl a t-shirt that read, "Big Sister To Be...This January." I put a sweatshirt on over it and left for our parents' houses. We also bought those recordable mother's day cards with a cute written poem to grandmother from grandchild. I added a little poem 'from my daughter': Roses are red, violets are blue, nothing's sweeter than me...except maybe two and recorded her little 18 month old voice saying "baby, baby." While mom's were busy opening and reading the cards - trying to figure out what it meant I took off the sweatshirt to reveal the 'big sister' t-shirt. It went VERY well - thanks to all of you!

How about going to the M&M website (http://www.mymms.com/customprint/) and ordering some in pink/ blue that say New Baby on one side and Due Date on the other. Just something a little different and with mother's day just around the corner, it could be the gift as well.
Good Luck and Congrats!

Hello,

I gave wallet sized photo frames with a piece of paper in them with a question mark on it as a gift to the baby's great-grandparents, grandparents, aunts & uncles and anyone that was a close family member or friend. After that we announced it to other friends and family members.

I just had my first baby a month ago. When we found out we were pregnant, I put a hamburger bun in our oven and took a picture. Then I got multiple copies made for our parents and close friends, glued them to note cards and wrote
Estimated date of arrival: 3/27/09 on the back. Everyone loved our "bun in the oven" idea...my husband is a chef, so many people thought I was sending a picture of something he made. Funny because he did, just not in the kitchen!

We did the Big Bro shirt too, however I also wore a shirt, and mine said 'due in August', we both had sweatshirts over our new shirts and then we told Daddy we had made a craft today and took off our sweatshirts, he read mine first...and didn't get it!!!!! Then read my son's and said "really'??? A friend of mine used the M & M's that you can put 'we're expecting on, or a due date... that would really make them think!

When I was pregnant with my second, we painted a t-shirt for my daughter to wear that said "I'm the Big Sister" on the front and had my due date on the back. Easy to do with fabric markers and paints. Then she wore it to a family dinner and everyone loved it! Congratulations!

With our first, we decided to announce it around Mother's Day so we bought cards that were for Grandmom from Grandchild. It was fun watching them read the cards.

When I was pregnant with our second, I made a T-shirt for my son that said "I'm going to be a great big brother!" We had him wear it when we went to visit his grandparents. It took awhile for some of the family to notice but it was so funny seeing everyone's expressions.

Hi A.!
We took a picture of our daughter holding a sign that said, "I'm going to be a big sister!" I just took it with my phone and texted it to everyone. You could always send a picture card to everyone, email it to everyone, or frame it & wrap it up to give to everyone (probably fewer people with that option)!
Congratulations and best of luck with your new little one!

Hi A.,

Congratulations on this pregnancy!! My in-laws sent out Change of Address cards for their son (my husband) 36 years ago. I believe they used it for Birth Announcements but you could do it to announce the pregnancy as well. They wrote that the baby moved from One Uterus Place to 123 Main Street (what ever their address was at the time!). You could write that the baby will move on your due date from one Uterus Place to your address.

Have fun with this and best wishes for a happy and healthy baby.

I just did the "Big Bro" shirt with my family. I also e-mailed a pic of my son in the shirt to friends and family that I didn't get to see in person. It was a cute way to tell them, because it took awhile for some people to notice the shirt and to understand it! Go with the "Big Sis" t-shirt!

Hi there,

I saw a picture where somebody put their first child in a tee shirt that said "Big Sister." (It was obviously a girl!) So I thought maybe you could take a picture of your three children -- have all of them wear shirts saying "Big Brother" and "Big Sister" respectively. You could then turn it into a card and then write something simple on the inside like, "The kids just wanted to share some good news!" or something like that. Something that would make your recipients have to do a double-take with the pic.

Good luck! I wish I had been creative in my announcement of my second!

I did the "I'm a Big Brother" shirt. It was a lot of fun to see who noticed it right away and who took longer. If you won't see some people in person, send them a picture of your daughter in ther shirt, and see who notices quickly. Everyone that we saw in person took pictures as a keepsake.
Have fun with it.

similar to others with a little twist, I made my son a shirt to wear that said "big brother in training"... could also do a "greeting card" with a picture of your other children with the same saying or something else cute

for my parent's anniversary we made tshirts using zazzle that had a picture on the front and a date on the back. you could do a picture of something that reminds you of a baby and the due date with a ? on the back or the month and year on the back.

have fun and good luck!

Hi A.!
I put a Big Sister t-shirt on my daughter when we were expecting our 2nd. The funny thing is that it took them FOREVER to notice what her shirt said! Ha! It was a great surprise. Etsy.com has a lot of shirts like this if you need one.

Hi A.
Congratulations on your new baby! I like the idea that others have had with the big sister t-shirt on your little girl.
When my niece and nephew were expecting their first they had grandparent t-shirts printed up for my brother and his wife.
It could be fun to see how long it takes them to notice what her shirt says!

Do you take a lot of pictures? Make a photo CD on Shutterfly (it's like $20 or so I think) and just put in of photos through the year of you guys (make one of just you and your family and make 2 copies or just make two different slideshows for each family with their member in it.)...then as the last photo have a picture saying that #2 is coming, whether it's a sign or tshirt that you took a photo of, etc.

Have the CD shipped to both families and you'll know who watched the whole video through because you'll get a phone call, i'm sure! It's something they will have forever and who doesn't like watching picture slideshows!

just a little idea as i was planning on surprising hubby with creative ways too (failed at that, lol) have you had an ultrasound yet? if you have, a cute idea would be to make a card, something on the front saying ''ready or not...'' and then put the ultrasound picture on the inside of the card, and ''HERE I COME!!!'' then something like ''Coming to a hospital near you --Due Date--''

hope you like that one :D

(i like the ideas of the big sister shirt, but it seems that just eeeeeveryone does that. its nice to be unique. i came up with this one, but didnt get a chance to do it as hubby pressured me into telling him before i could set this up)

I tried to do the picture thing, but my son was completely uncooperative. But I wanted the news to come from him...so I purchased cards online...the front read "Shhh..I've got a secret..." and the inside said "I'm going to be a big brother!" I had him present them to his grandparents in person...they really got a kick out of it...then mailed them to extended family members. I still get compliments on the idea. I also got him a tshirt that matched the cards, and he wore it when his little sister was born.

Hi and congratulations,

When I was preg for the second time, it was a surprise for us too so to announce it to our families I took some time with my first and we made him a shirt. We used fabric paint and his favorite shapes. I wrote on it, "I'm going to be the BIG BROTHER". Unfortunately it took a little while for everyone to notice the beautiful creation but when they did, it was very exciting for everone. Wish you the best.

Congratulations!! I was going to make the same suggestion as Denise, but since she beat me to it (LOL!) how about sending "save the date" cards listing your due date. Or if you know approximate dates for ultrasounds, check ups, etc give them inexpensive calendars with those dates filled in.

With our first child we happened to find out in November so I bought bibs for each of the grandparents that said either "I Love my Grandpa" or "I Love my Grandma". I wrapped them in Christmas paper and gave them as early Christmas presents. With it being May I'm not sure the "early Christmas present" will work, but maybe you can adapt it.
My Mo-in-law flipped when she opened it...she just loved it! Of course that was her very first grandchild.
Anyhow, for what it is worth, that is how we "announced" our first child to the grandparents.
By the way...congratulations! :-)

Friends of ours announced it with the "Big Brother" "Big Sister" t-shirts. We found out around Christmas with our second one, so we bought little photo albums with baby booties on the front and gave them out. Everyone loved them....and now they use them as little brag books with the grandkids pictures in.

T shirts with "I'm going to be a big sister"/"brother" Take their picture with the shirts on = maybe holding a book The New Baby - You can make them into post cards or note cards with your message on the back or inside.
This sounds like fun! Good luck!
