Csection Scar Opened and Passed Object Two Years Later.

Good Morning Moms!
My last csection was 2 1/2 years ago. About a week ago I began having a little pain at the left side of my incision scar. It still looked fine but I was uncomfortable. Two days ago I woke up and found the pain more intense and the area was bright red and inflamed. Yesterday, I was in so much pain, I felt like I had just had another csection! The incision had opened up and was bleeding. By late afternoon I decided I was going to call my doctor (I'm stubborn and I was scared, that's what took me so long!) when all of a sudden this white object about the size of three grains of cooked rice fell out of the hole in my incision. I instantly felt relief! The pain didn't go away completely but it did subside greatly and the bleeding stopped as well. Today I am almost pain free! The redness is gone as well. I've searched the Internet and can't seem to find any information as to what I just went through and now that its not an emergency I can't see my doctor until the end of next week.
Has anyone been through this or heard of this before?
Thanks so much!

Ew that is so creepy!

My husband was in a car accident 15 years ago and we have experienced the random piece of glass working its way out of the skin like 10 years later. So that part is not what's is weird to me...

But seriously, what was that thing???? I am still really grossed out by the thought that I had a c-section... I feel my insides have never been the same. The thought of something foreign in there too would freak me out! You are a trooper. I can't wait to hear how they explain that.

The ONLY time that has happened to me was after a car accident, I apparently had tempered glass still in my body and about a year later, it popped out of my side. Weird and cool at the same time.

I agree with FB - Hold onto it since you don't know origin, etc.

I wouldn't wait to see the Dr., even though I might be pain free now.

You could need some antibiotics, sutures for the opening of the C-section, etc.

Also, I would make sure I saved whatever popped out so the Dr. can analyze it. It is more than likely a piece of bandage or something that got stuck in your scar when you were recovering.

YEARS, ago, my mom had a car accident and had broken glass in her arm. For years after that, it was not uncommon for her to get a little red painful bump on her arm and a day or two later, a small piece of glass would pop out and the bump would heal.

I wouldn't go nuts worrying over this but I would certainly have it checked out. I don't think it reeks a malpractice suit at all...... that is NONSENSE.

How can this still not be an emergency? The doctor needs to examine you ASAP to make sure there's nothing worse to come. If the Dr won't see you right now, go to the ER.

No...I have never heard of this before.

If it were me...I'd have 'bagged' up whatever came out...and taken pictures of the c section scar opened up.

I cannot imagine...particularly if this was the doc that DID the c section, that they would make you wait.

I would personally get a consult with ANY doc...and not let this go.

It is just too strange.

My nephew served 4 tours in Iraq. In one tour - an IED exploded near him - he has shrapnel in his back and legs - it doesn't bother him until his body finally rejects them and tries to push them out. he goes to the Veterans hospital and they remove it. He gets antibiotics to ensure it doesn't get infected and he goes on his merry way.

call your OB/GYN who performed the surgery - tell them what happened (not the nurse - but the DOCTOR) and see if they want to see you. if you aren't in pain, you don't have a fever and the inflammation is gone - whatever grains came out - are most likely out. However, if the incision is still open, you might need a stitch or two. So I would get that checked out. I hope you saved whatever came out.

If the doctor won't see you until next week - why not go to your Primary Care Physician? Maybe they can get you in sooner.

Hope that helps!

Hold onto whatever came out. Take pictures of it and the wound while both are still fresh. Contact your doctor's office immediately with this informtion and see if they want you to come in ASAP or not.

I've never heard of this sort of thing, but the body is a wondrous machine.

Good luck to you and yours and glad you are feeling better.

I agree with Flaming Turnip. If you feel fine and it's not inflamed any more, I don't think you have to worry, but I guess you can show the object to a dr. and see if he can figure out what it is.

I once knew a guy who had gotten a nail impaled in his rear end when he was a kid, and it went in deep and had always stayed there. Every once in a while when he sat a certain way he could feel it, but other than that, it didn't bother him. One day, a couple of decades later, the same thing happened to him as was happening to you, and then out popped the nail.

Your body just wanted to get rid of the object, and it did. Whatever it is, it's probably all good now.

I have to disagree with Aileene. Okay, don't take it to the dr., see if someone else can figure out what it is. But what if it's only three little grains of something, and now it's out? Doctors and nurses aren't superheroes, they are human beings, and every once in a while some tiny thing happens. Assuming there was only this tiny object in you, I think it's immoral to sue, frankly. S&*t happens.

I had this happen to my scar when i had shoulder surgery and happened with my c-section scar. It was a dissolvable stitch. Slot of times your body does not disolve it then u reject it. Do go see ur Dr if ur worried.

I watch too much monsters inside me so my brain goes all parasite.

More likely though was it was a piece of debris that was in the incision all along, probably trapped during the healing process that you body decided to take offense with a couple weeks ago.

This is very normal. My husband as a child had been in an accident, as an adult the piece of glass popped out.

I once had a rose thorn stuck in one of my fingers.. My husband had worked and worked on it, but we could never get it all out. Finally about 3 years later I got funny blister on my finger, when I lanced it.. there was a tiny.. tiny.. bit in there.. it was that stupid thorn.

We have a friend that was accidentally shot in one of his butt cheeks by a nail gun! . It is so far in there, the doctors told him they could remove it, but since our friend cannot afford the surgery, the doctors told him it will work its way out eventually! He says it does not bother him..

The Oklahoma bombing survivors and the 911 survivors in NYC.. talk about bits and pieces that work their way out all of the time.

It can at first feel itchy in that area.. and then it can burn and become irritated as the objects begin working their way out..

The Human Body is amazing..

I think that this is still an emergency and you need to be seen immediately. It's not over.

Get to the ER now -- you do not know what else might be left inside you. Not feeling pain at the moment means nothing. Keep the stuff that came out to show the doctors but yes, retain some (or keep it with you at the hospital) as evidence for later. I would want to now if I were infected. A foreign object in your body, and your doctor's office now won't see you until next week?? Or is that you, yourself, delaying medical care? Please don't. Even though you feel no pain and seem better, you could have a festering infection going on inside.

I would go to the ER immediately, myself. And I'd take another person along to ensure that I have a witness for all that is said and done, and I'd have that person take notes. It could be some piece of a stitch or it could be something much more serious. You cannot know, nor can you diagnose for yourself whether you have any internal infection. Please get seen today. Better to go and be told "It's not a big deal" than to wait and find out you should have gone in immediately.

And yeah, keep the idea of a malpractice suit in your mind in case this is not normal. I find it hard to believe it's normal.

If it were me, I would call the doctor and get an appointment. I still think it's still a possible emergency situation (better safe than sorry). I would also really want to know what those things were (put them in a ziploc bag and put them in the fridge until you see the doctor).

DO NOT TAKE ALL OF THE OBJECT(S) TO THE DOCTOR.

You may be talking to a lawyer soon about medical malpractice. The piece of whatever is not only evidence, but it could easily disappear if you take all of it to the doc.

Obviously some piece of medical equipment was left inside you. See the doc. Take a few days to breathe. Decide how you want to proceed. But no matter what - keep a portion of the "thing"

A stitch that had cells attached to it. I'd just call the nurse and ask them if it needs a bandaid with antibiotics on it.

Wow - what a crazy thing to have happen. I'd keep the appointment with your doc. You might want to ask if they can check to see if anything else is in there. In any case, glad you're feeling better.

I have heard of medical devices being left in people, so it's not unheard of. I would keep what came out and question the dr about it!
