Curious - If You Work, Is Your Company Open on Friday?

My hubby has a small family business (15-20 employees). They get to select a floating holiday at the beginning of each year and chose Friday for this year. So they WILL be closed, but not normally! I would guess big companies would be open of Friday, especially those that do a lot of international business.

I work in the Payroll Industry and we are open Friday. I however will not be here. I took the day off. :)

I work on the stock market schedule, so it's a work day for us. There are 4 days a year that I can't take off (the 4th business day after each calendar quarter end) and Friday is one of them. Luckily I can work remotely, so my kids will be at a family reunion on the beach while I'm holed up at a Starbucks or Panera for the day, using their wi-fi to work.

My husband and son both have to work (husband is a stockbroker, son is a summer camp counselor.)

I choose my hours at home, so I'm off. My husband is off both Thursday and Friday. I am SOOO happy, because he hasn't been off since whatever the last holiday was. He's a designer and usually companies want all kinds of proofs for holiday stuff they have going on. They were really lucky this year and all but a few companies sent their stuff in early. So, yeah...4 day weekend!!

A lot of people will take a vacation day on Friday but the office will be open.

My husband doesn't have Friday off. Most of our relatives also work this Friday.

I'm in the military. I took leave on Friday. Liberal leave policy is in effect, which basically means that SOMEONE needs to be in the office....but it won't be me.

We run our company from our home and we will be home working, however, we expect it to be a slower day. I look at it as a catch up, filing, etc day and I will not be in here all day, just part of the day.

Many of our customers are open 24/7 with production lines and we stay ready to deliver materials if needed. That said, if someone needs something on Friday, it will be more difficult and expensive to locate a delivery company. I am sending a sample out today via FedEx that has to be tested on Friday so the vendor can produce more materials for us.

When I was in corporate marketing at Frito Lay years ago, if the 5th fell during the week, you had an option to use it as a floating holiday. No one got much work done on the 5th.

Yes, most companies/private businesses/mom & pop stores are open on Friday.
This is the norm here.
But, many people may opt to take the Friday off.
Friday, things are open as usual as it would be on any other weekday.
But Thursday is closed.

If you are going anyplace/kiddie venues etc. just call them for their hours on Friday.

for my company? MY position? it's a floating holiday. IF I want to work - I can.

My husband has to work. NOT a holiday for him. He's a Government contractor.

Open with the option to take the day off. I took the option.

Husband works for a car dealership. They are open on the 4th and 5th.
In fact, most car places will be open on the 4th and 5th. I think Ford, Toyota, Volkwagon, and other brand name car companies are pretty big!

Closed but you have to use ETO to be paid. You can come in and work if you want though.

Our dental office is closed tomorrow through Sunday. Unless of course, there are emergencies, and then we will be here :)

The company my husband works for does not get Friday off. They only get Thursday off.
It's been rare that my husband gets Friday off. Only a couple companies he's worked for offers it off.

Many of the companies here are open on Friday. BUT if the holiday was on a Saturday, we get Friday off.

I work for a loan company, we do not have Friday off. We get 4 holidays off each year (new years, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas). We do have our paid vacation days we can use though.
My husband is a web programmer for an architectural panel factory, they do not get Friday off and his team actually has to work Saturday too because of a big project they are rolling out.

Both mine and my husband places of employment are open. Closed Thursday. Open Friday.

I'm working Friday. Construction materials company, they are pouring concrete so the office is open. Woohoo.

I work for the government, so I will be working. My husband works for a fairly large company and they have the day off. Which is good, because our day care person has the day off as well!

I work in an office. Typically our offices are closed on July 4th, however, this year management decided to close on the 5th so we can all have a long weekend.

Yes, we're open. I think that companies often give the day after Thanksgiving as a non-holiday day off.

It is messy, when the holidays fall in the middle of the week.. But that is just part of of it.

I don't think I've ever heard of any normal company having less than a 5 day work week. They wouldn't be able to get anything done on Friday fi they were closed and the rest of the world was open.

My big company is open too, that's why I took vacation this week!!

I have to work. We only get 6 holidays per year.

Me = working. Husband = working. We both work for IBM, which is a huge company.

I can tell you that the city government and banks are closed here. I had to renew my license plate sticker on Monday (because I spaced and didn't do it in June lol) and they had a big sign that they would be closed on Friday.

My company is open as is my hubbys, he is in a small company. We took the day off to go on a small vacation.
