I'm so sorry to hear this - it is really serious. Did someone suggest involving the school counselor? They have a tremendous amount of training in this area (it is such a hot topic right now) and are usually very willing to help.

Hey all,
I just found out my middle school child is being cyber-bullied. I am at a loss on how to proceed. Any of you been there? Know of any good resources? I don't even know where to begin.
Thanks for your help
***Thanks for your reponse so far ladies. Question, how do I contact my ISP? I've read about that but don't know how to proceed.
Thanks again!

You live in Flower Mound, so that means you're in REGION 11 as far as your school district goes....here's the phone number: ###-###-####, but I'm not sure they can do anything about it....at least give them a call and see.
As far as your ISP (Internet Service Provider) goes, that's who you have your computer service with, for example, AT&T, Comcast, etc. Since all that happened with the young lady who comitted suicide over cyber-bullying, you might want to start with your local PD and see if you need to go somewhere else first. If this is done in school, the students should NOT be chatting on-line during school hours to begin with.
Good luck and let us know what avenue you chose and how things come out.

I would find out who it is... tak print outs of the bullying to the parents (they never believe their child did anything wrong)... also give copies to the district and police depts...

This happened to my 14 yo daughter 2 years ago and I printed all the information. Took all the information to the administrators and resource officer at school. From that point foward I have not had any issues with the bully!
Yes i agree with all the post that have been done ... if nothing is done that way contact ur local pd and a lawyer...but please get it done SOON...look what happened to the 13yr old being BULLIED by an adult and the adults child and the child that committed suicide were best friends at one time...
Visit this website... http://admin.esc14.net/webs/rpruitt/home.htm
or contact your local Region center. here in Abilene it is Region 14. Each center has a safe and drug free schools coordinator who should have all kinds of resources to help out. Good luck with figuring this out! This is getting to be more and more of a problem as technology takes over the next generation! And don't forget that cyber bullying also involves text messaging as well the internet.
He could let the site know that his parents had just put a lock on his use of the computer, so if no one gets a response from him that they would know why, and act like he had used another computer. Then tell him to not get back on the (chat sites) anymore. You can't get bullied if you don't go there. And reporting it to the ISP would be a good deal.
This is tough ... We didn't have to deal with this type of bullying when we were kids, and it probably one of the hardest forms of bullying to address. I think you have gotten some great advice!! I would love to hear what steps you take to address the issue.
Good Luck!

I agree with the posts below on addressing it, but you should be able to block this person via whatever tool your child is using so they can't even send to your child. You probably have a number or your bill to contact or on your Internet Service Provider's web site in order to report abusive communication if the communication is coming through his email account.
Who is doing the cyber-bullying? If it's a classmate at school then I think you should talk to his school principal or vice-principal. Be sure to take evidence of this bullying, like printouts of chat logs, emails, or message board posts. If this child is bullying online, then he/she is probably also bullying at school too. If you know this child's parents well enough, you can always approach them about it too if you feel comfortable with that. Of course, the best way to deal with a bully is to ignore him. You could always tell your child to ignore this person online - delete their messages and not respond to them. Middle schoolers are mean, so most likely is a phase that will go away as they get older.
block the internet site the child is being bullied on. tell your child to ignore the bully. the bully is an immature person so have your child be the better ... walk away and ignore.
