Dads at Prenatal Yoga Class?

I'm going to be a first time mom in March and one of my girlfriends recommended prenatal yoga classes. I read some reviews here recommending Bloom and Yogaview, but I was wondering if anyone has ever seen any dads attending any of the prenatal classes? My husband is interested in participating in the prenatal yoga class with me and the baby. I think it would be an interesting experience for both of us and we would both learn a lot. Has anyone seen dads in these classes? Does anyone know of a special "family prenatal class" somewhere? Do you think the other moms would be open to having a dad there? Any feedback would be apprechiated. Also, the classes wuld have to be at a feasable time for someone working full time. Thanks.

I also have attended several prenatal yoga classes at Bloom, but it is just for the mommies.

I work, and they do have classes that are accommodating to that. I usually go on Monday evenings, but they also have one or two on the weekends.

It's kind of a nice time just for moms:)

Hi K.,

Not sure where you live, but I've been taking prenatal yoga classes at Bodhi Prem Yoga in Arlington Heights. It is unlike the yoga you will find at the Y or at a lot of yoga centers; classes are taught by a real yogi from India, who, for the prenatal classes anyway, focuses almost entirely on breathing and stretching, not the more aerobic, traditional (in the American sense) that were taught at my Y. I would be willing to bet your husband would be welcome, also. I'm sorry I don't have their phone # handy, but they do have a website. Good luck!

hi K., i took prenatal yoga at bloom and loved loved loved it!

i thought i wanted my hubby to go as well but, they don't allow dads. (i asked)
after attending i understand totally why they don't, i felt really comfortable with all the other expecting mothers and don't think that would have been the case with men attending the class. it was easier to talk openly about stuff with all women too.

i went all nine months and recommend it to everyone i know. the staff is great at bloom.

good luck!

Look into Heaven Meets Earth studio in Evanston. Mother Me, Inc. also has prenatal yoga classes for couples.

Normally I would recommend Sweet Pea's, but they just closed and Mother Me took over the space. Most of the couples classes that I'm aware of are in the evenings.

Good luck! I think it would probably be uncomfortable for the other women if your husband went to a "normal" prenatal yoga class. I'd look into couples classes. It's like having a dad at a mommy and me yoga class when half the babies are breastfeeding at any given time; a little awkward. We pass gas, we like to talk about strange bodily problems, and a lot of women wouldn't feel comfortable doing that if a man was present. Unless everyone's husband was present, in which case everyone would open up.

Good luck.
