Okay, so what type of entertainment is available for families in Dallas, TX?
How is the weather year round? Are tornadoes a serious concern for me relocating from the West Coast?
Since there are no mountains or beaches, does Dallas offer in terms of water parks, pools, and hiking trails.

Thanks so much

What can I do next?

It depends on what area of Dallas you are looking. I am in the PlanoAllen area, my house backs up to an 85 acre park. I have wildlife (bobcats, armadillos, coyotes, raccoons, etc) on a daily basis.

You CAN live in the concrete jungle if you choose but there are some VERY nice options. You'd never believe our neighborhood was in the DFW area.

We don't do the water park thing so I am not much help with that. I've probably been to the Arlington area 3 times in 20 yrs.

We love the DFW area and would not choose to move.

The weather stinks here. I love Texas but miss the weather in so. california. You spend alot of time indoors here. You can drive about 6 hours and be at Galvastan beach. The people here are great and Texas is Beautiful but the weather is the worst.

I love living in Texas. I grew up in Nebraska as my dad was military, but my entire family is from Texas. I LOVE the weather, and don't really mind the horrible heat. We do have some pretty wild storms, but I never, underline NEVER go to a storm shelter. I just watch the news closely. The hail is probably worse than tornadoes. Just try to keep your car in a garage. The roofing business here is pretty brisk! There are a number of water parks, Hurricane Harbor, Hawaiian somethinggg.... and NRH2O, and a lot of neighborhoods (nicer ones) have a pool with slides, etc. There are all sorts of entertainment venues, zoos, aquariums, professional sports, concerts gallore....

There is alot of things to do in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. There are water parks, lakes, hiking trails, parks, all major professional sports, malls, theater, horse racing, amusement parks, etc. There are tons of kids activities. The heat is bad in the summer - usually middle to end of June through middle of September. Winter can range from mild to pretty cold. We don't tend to get alot of snow but can get ice. We do get tornado warnings quite a bit in the spring but I've lived here my entire life and never had one. The hail though can be a problem - mainly in the spring. Just make sure you have a garage ! I would not live in Dallas proper. There are a ton of suburbs so to speak (some major towns like Arlington) that are alot better for family life and schools. They are all within driving distance - 30 to 45 minutes to anything around. Good luck in your decision !

You would be giving up mountains & beaches for concrete. It is flat here - nothing other than high rises scrape across the sky. Sure there are hiking trails but the surroundings are less than adequate, in most cases quite ugly, compared to California & Nevada. There are water parks (few and far between and small) and many people have pools, but I wouldn't venture to many public pools. It is hot in the summer and cold in the winter with little bit of fall & spring mixed in.

I have lived all over the Dallas area (N, S, E & W) for the past 42+ years - I grew up here. I am extremely familiar with the area. As well, I have lived in Colorado & Washington State. If it weren't for my husband, I would not be living here. It is utterly deplorable, as far as doing things to do outside.

If you like to shop & eat then Dallas is the place to be!

Regarding your other post, other than the cheap cost of living, there is NO reason to move here...

Sorry, I don't mean to be downer, but after living in areas like Colorado Springs and Seattle - Dallas sucks!
