My husband and I are going to have a couple of days next week in which both of our children will be gone. We had orginially planned to go out of town but since then we have decided to go on a big family vacation in a couple of weeks so we are scaling back on our getaway. We have decided to stay at home but to act like tourist or at least check out some of the things in our own area. We live close to The Woodlands and are willing to drive a little ways but would like to be able to come back to our house at night.

Does anyone have any suggestions of things that you have done, places you have visited, a new restaurant to try, etc. We seem to get into to rut of just going out to eat and seeing movies but we would like to try new things. Also I really cannot handle a lot of heat, so I would prefer to do things that are inside. One other thing to consider is that our days alone will be in the middle of the week.

Thanks for any suggestions.

What can I do next?

Google "Things to do in Spring, TX" and see what comes up. I'm not familiar with that area but I'm sure you'll find something fun to do. Be sure to take pictures like a tourist would.

You can also play as if you don't know each other and have him "pick you up" at a hotel or restaurant bar... Act like you don't know each other and let your imaginations run wild.

There is a place called Pinot's Palette. They have several locations. The concept is that you go in, have wine, and paint a picture on canvas that you get to keep. My husband & I have also gone bowling, which provides a lot of laughter, as well as batting cages, the driving range, and go-carts. I know you aren't big on the heat, but we love going down to Surfside, TX for the day. It's more of a beach community than a touristy type place, but it's nice & relaxing. Being able to bring a canopy & get in the water will surely help you cool down. Also, the Houston Museum District has plenty of really great opportunities for indoor interesting amusements. I love the Butterfly exhibit at The Museum of Natural Science. Afterward, there are plenty of restaurants close by that are great. Try the original Carrabba's on Kirby, Cova Wine Bar on Kirby in the Village, Ava's Kitchen in the Upper Kirby District, or Eddie V's Steakhouse, also in Upper Kirby. Antiqa Osteria is right down Bissonet from the Museum District at Shepherd, and its a nice, cozy Italian Restaurant. Consider a night at Hotel Zaza (formerly The Warwick Hotel). They have the Monarch Restaurant, which serves a nice brunch. Go to an Astro's game! My husband & I did this on a recent date night & had a ball (no pun intended). We cheaped out & got the nosebleed seats, but it was great (view and all). There's something about the good old fashioned National Pastime that is a lot of fun & nostalgic. Plus, I've never met anyone that doesn't like a ballpark hotdog or peanuts. Another of my favorite "in town" restaurants is Ouisie's on San Felipe near Buffalo Speedway. Great atmosphere, excellent brunch, and a refreshing, beyond typical menu that is wonderful. Enjoy your time, sans children, and enjoy revisiting your city!

You may want to drive to Brenham and go through the Blue Bell Factory; call and see if you can get on one of the tours first; then you can go downtown and eat at one of the cafes; you can also go to the many museums in Houston (Museum of Fine Arts, Museum of Natural Science, etc.); Enjoy!!

I love going to The Woodlands Mall and to some of the great restaurants there. For my birthday, my friend, mom & sister took me to The Cheesecake Factory...LOVED THEIR FOOD !!!! Didn't get to ride the boat on the waterway but I'm sure would be very enjoyable. Just a suggestion! I've also heard that Kemah is alot of fun but have never been yet !

If you don't mind going all the way to Galveston, Moody Gardens is fun. Visit the aquarium there to beat the heat. The rainforest pyramid is fun too, but obviously not air conditioned. They also have an IMAX theater there for a twist on the movie idea. There are some great restaurants there too. Good luck and enjoy your alone time!!!
